Rooster, you get it the wrong way around, as usual.

dead poultry is hung by the feet, not by the neck!

I think the feet thing is AFTER they’re dead. By the neck gets them to that stage.

Just as a note: One can’t hang them by the neck if you chop the head off… (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-innocent.gif)

Grow up !

Talking to your self again Rooster?

Fun is not allowed!!!

Today was reworking how the water and power lines come up and out of the coming mountain, final gluing / positioning of the bricks, grading / tamping the dirt, and cutting & setting the street foundation boards.

Next will probably be the steel mesh for the terrain contours, but first I need to spend a week at work and recover from all this, haha!

WAIT! I’m confused. All of us play with trains, and somebody said, “Grow Up!” I may be 74 years old, but my response is “NEVER!!!”

Have fun, David Meashey

Hey Cliff! That building sized pot, upper right last photo, may not be to scale. Maybe…

Looking good. Hope work is restful.

Jim there is a building called the Kettle in Galveston, TX. Looks pretty much like a big pot, maybe he just has not painted it yet.

Go ahead buddy, you earned it…(https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-sealed.gif)

HAHA!!! Thanks for reminding me Chris, I SHOULD make a special trip into town… Me and Don Miguel haven’t gotten together since the CV shut down my work travel! (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cry.gif)

This is the only railroad that has grandstands …That I know of … must be a good one …

Cliff I hope it come out as well as in your mind …(https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)

Pretty much Rt 30 in PA

Hey dudes,

Since the mountain I have to make for these buildings is it’s own big project, I’m switching over to a new thread about that:

Virginia City central mountain project.

To close this project out, I’m happy to say that the flats are ready for install, my work table is cleared for new things, and I even updated my bin labels. Some might say I go too far with the labels, but…

As long as you don’t have a label maker with a label saying “Label Maker”, you are not too far gone!!

The only problem I’m seeing is you probably have to lay on your side to read them.

After a big hiatus, I’m finally back to this project. The foundation for the flats became fairly involved; and if you want to see that story, here’s the thread.

The next step on this particular project is to build the frame that the flats hang on, and run the wiring. The frame is based on 3/4" EMT tube, clamped against some aluminum Z extrusion I bought last March I think. To reduce galvanic corrosion, the clamps would be oversized, and a rubber strip would be put around the EMT.

I wanted a whole weekend to put up the frame. Should be a piece of cake; but I figured there would be plenty of “oh-poo’s” to deal with, being new territory. And yep, there have been. I think I’ve pinged the dufus meter today with stupid mistakes. Such as…

  • Needing to splice the Z-rails, because I needed 85", and forgot the stock length was 72"
  • Forgetting which side to put the splice on (the Z has to go in a very particular orientation)
  • Realizing the mountain mortar bulged out and interfered with the lower Z rail, requiring part of that rail to be raised (the opera house rail must stay low, because of its light box)
  • Realizing I can’t get a phillips head screw driver on to a screw that has concrete right behind it
  • Etc.

In other words, all is progressing as planned… (https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-foot-in-mouth.gif)

Assuming better progress, pics tomorrow…

Sure, for you a big hiatus is 2 months…for the rest of us mortals, it’s more like two years…

Of course, we DO expect a LOT from you. Looking forward to the pictures. I’m betting some wonderful work.

Hwy 66 revisited. It’s a diner.

Thanks Bruce (https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-laughing.gif)(https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)

OK, today went better. I got the frame finished, with the lower rail at two levels (to make room for the opera house lower light box at the far end, and the bulged-out mortar at the near end).

Then I made the clips. Cut, drilled, deburred… next time I’ll order them that way, it’s not much more expensive than getting the material in stock lengths like I did.

After that I did the final sealing of the light boxes (with aluminum duct tape), and propped the flats against the rails. Shims and clamps helped keep them level and in position.

The moment of truth came in installing the clips. And thankfully, that went very smoothly. I applied methacrylate to the upper part of the rear of the clip, keeping a clear margin near where the rail would be. I don’t want to weld these flats to the rails, that’s for sure! Then I secured the clip with a #10 SS sheet metal screw.

As you can see, the back stage view is awful. I might work on improving it some year… The front view is better though.

I’ll eventually need to find some way of filling the gaps between boardwalk and road, that doesn’t glue the thing down.

I need to get more sprinkler cable to run the lighting power, that’ll be next weekend.

Cheers,

Another museum quality project…(https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)

Quit screwing around and light it up!
