Cliff:
Thanks for the plan. That helps.
Do you have an overall plan for the entire layout that shows where this fits vs, say, your Hale & Norcross building, and whatever else you have (see, I have no idea what other buildings you have! but maybe it is because I’m too new)?
For example, I have been using this overall plan for my layout:

Are you serious Jim ?
Who the hell broke the protocol on the plans? I thought we didn’t do plans?
At least mine are chicken scratches! Cliff does CAD drawings for fun! So there!
Rooster, I guess Jim & I didn’t get that memo… (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-laughing.gif)(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-tongue-out.gif)
But Jim, I’m afraid I don’t have any presentation-type rendition of my cad plans. Yours is great! And earlier on, I tried to maintain a decent printable layer set, but couldn’t keep up. I make layers as needed by whatever the current step is, with the current VC flats as an example. And even that file hasn’t been re-incorporated into the master file…
So, FWIW, here’s the overall plan, with Virginia City not up to date, and with most of the working layers turned off. Probably the best I have at this point. But thanks for asking!

Haha! Ken, that’s exactly what my last mini van became. The carpet was thick with mortar and concrete dust, plastic and headliner all scratched and torn because of materials toted, both rear benches removed… Was a great enclosed pickup (Grand Caravan). But when its brake lines rusted out, costing 2k to replace, she was doomed.
Thanks, Cliff! That is way better than my pathetic map, even if it is slightly out of date.
A question: those big blue buildings (well, blue placeholders) all look vaguely mine-like. Are they? If so, where does the ore go?

Farthest track on the left goes nowhere suggesting an interchange …
But Jim they are models, they don’t make anything, you’re silly!

Still breaking the rules with a plan !

John: you are so right. What was I (not) thinking?
Oh Rooster, what will we do with you?

The town square at high noon Jim …as a few wish!
Rooster, you get it the wrong way around, as usual.
dead poultry is hung by the feet, not by the neck!

I think the feet thing is AFTER they’re dead. By the neck gets them to that stage.

Just as a note: One can’t hang them by the neck if you chop the head off… (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-innocent.gif)

I’m proud to say that I’m the only one I know who’s actually wrung a chicken’s neck. No offense, Rooster. (https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)
Back to the flats, I took Friday off, and have had 2 days to hammer out the mini retaining wall and backstage access path. The wall is set in gravel, and the blocks are adhered with construction adhesive made for concrete (good call, Pete).
Lots to do, like graveling & finishing the path, making wiring & sprinkler lines more accessible in this new mountain area, cutting / fitting the boards representing roads, on and on.
Eventually I’ll be able to park the current flats on this pile, but it’ll be a while. The good news is that in a few months, the final heavy work on the layout will hopefully be done (including the center mountain project), and I’ll be set up for adding several other rows of flats.

Another shrewd observation and question, thanks Jim. Yes, those are all the major mines of Virginia City. And unfortunately, most of the ore was processed at a distance, in mills not represented in this phase of my layout. I want to do them justice in a later phase, but my plans may be bigger than my reality. Instead, I’ll probably come up with a non-historical mill at some point, just for operational reasons.
Edit to say your map is excellent!!
