Trestle Design & Construction on the V&T

Barbs against Rooster more than likely wear thin at times. Those that are continual and personal. He and I talk at times and Mr Russell has coveted his naming as a point of honor given to him because of a picture he posted. 99% of the barbs thrown at him are a mixed crowd who from newbie to old timer have embraced the humor and do it in a friendly manor while they also praise his efforts and modeling skills. He started the ‘Another useless thread by Rooster’ Just to encourage people like yourself to poke barbs at him., but keeps his modeling skills on other threads. What was occurring in this thread seemed to be a continuing harassment of barbs, I think in good humor but no praise, and I think others dislike the things expressed.
Just thought we needed to reopen this issue from the past before we lose talented people and a wealth of knowledge

i wouldn’t get that far, but i have the strong feeling, that “John” is constantly swimming against the tides.

Yeah tell me about it! :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Good to see you around, Devon.

Okay. Rooster no longer exists in my world. No worries, thanks Dave.

why?
most of us are married for decades. isn’t that almost the same?

on the other side, what is that “affirmative” worth?
isn’t it proven, that bots can lie?

Back to the trestle. After a few days of letting the concrete dry (it’s been rainy), I tested Gorilla Glue for adhering the plex base plates down. Per GG instructions I’d roughed up the bottom sides of the plates on the belt sander to let the glue bite.

The glue worked very well, so this morning I did the rest. The bricks were to react the expansion of the glue. Had to use wax paper under the brick, because the glue in the small holes wanted to glue the brick down as well.

The glue expanded and set fairly quickly.

I left the top smooth for the later addition of indexing pieces, and that smoothness helped in the excess cleanup.

The above shot looks the same as a month or two ago, but now the plates won’t fly away in the wind (as they were tending to do).

Cheers,
Cliff

Cliff what are plex base plates and what advantage do they offer over the concrete?

Bill, I guess mainly I tried to design for massive inaccuarcy. :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

These plates give the bents a target area for each bent to rest. Once they find their final parking place, the plan is to adhere U-shaped indexing pieces to lock the bents laterally. They’ll be plex as well, and get bonded to these base plates.

Vertical inaccuracy (“tolerance” sounds better, right?) is via 1/2" thick boards which go between bents and plex plates. More on that later.

I visited Cliff today, the trestle is a stunning amazing masterpiece. Really.

I still don’t think he can get it out the door.
May become a large indoor layout? :steam_locomotive:

I hope you forwarded that idea to Linda!

The Chief Engineer of the C.V.S.Ry. Over Engineering Department approves of your work! This has become quite the project. Well done so far!

Cliff;

Are we sure only water is in that barrel. Could it perhaps be Old Froth & Slosh? The Section Chief looks a bit too content.

Best, David Meashey

Dave, uh, I’m afraid I have no information on that…

Moving day, yay. Our daughter Leah helped me carry the thing out. Since I sort of promised Rooster a video, Linda handled that part.

Long part 1: gettin er out.

Short part 2: placing it on the piers.

Now comes shimming, securing, and trackwork, hopefully this weekend if the weather holds.

Good job Cliff! I wasn’t sure you were going to make it without mishap, but seems you had good help.
I know everybody here was rooting for you

Thanks Rick! Yeah there were some close calls, but nothing catastrophic or even difficult really, thank you God!!

Wow. That was impressive not only the maneuvering outside but how well you’d CAD your layout that it dropped into place.

Makes my feeble attempt at a bridge seem worthless…

Although if I had space, I’d have to build a model of this…
