So I have my fan cut out. It is a little larger in diameter, But has more blades and looks much bigger than it is. I am going to give it a coat of something not sure yet. need to get rid of the shiny surface… what do you guys think?..
These pics don’t look so good so I will take some more… and may re-post later…
I think you have done well Travis. That fan looks like it will work.
Just needed a little gamma correction:
Here are a couple of better pictures …
I dunno, a gray colour would look nice. Maybe just dull down the shine a bit with etching acid or a grayish paint.
A bulls eye… red center, yellow and white tips
Lookin’ good, Travis. I think I will try the masking tape/tar paper roof idea. I have the coroplast cut so it shouldn’t be that hard to change it.
Have you considered purple for the windmill? There’s a lot left over from another thread.
Travis looking very good, be sure and put a little rust on the blades, will really add to it.

More progress on fan. Added a wire ring thru the blades which made it more stiff which is good.
used some copper wire. I wrapped it around a pineapple can to get the diameter it was close so I went with that…
Next fed the wire loop around thru the holes drilled into the blades with a pin vise drill and the soldered the ends together…
Up next I painted the blades a dolphin acrylic gray. Since it is very cold here and can’t spray paint inside I opted to hand brush this time. Next fan I build I will try the suggestions you guys have mentioned and do something different. This is what I have so far…
I will have to work on it later tonite after work…
That fan looks great now. Is it going to have a wind direction tail?

Looking really good

Thanks guys… Yes Shawn I have it cut out and painted. Now pondering on how I am gonna attach it to the tower . I have a few Ideas… I wish it was warm enough to spray some clear coat on it… I will have some more pics later today…
Ready to assemble the fan, vane, and the spindle it will turn on…
Next the vane is finished and ready to be assembled to the fan.
holed drilled in the back for dowel to fit into, test fit all together
And so far this is waht I have,
I started to work on the ladder tonite, I am gonna do it in two sections. A short one to the roof and then a longer one up the side of the tower. I have seen some other models done this way so I hope they don’t mind if I borrow the idea… more pics later this week…Travis
Nice work Travis
Thanks Boomer. I think I should have painted the fan a different color. Although it is flat grey and barn red it looks kinda out of place for a railroad…
