Travis's Mik's Build Challenge 2014

Well I have more progress to show for my project this week so far…

I made a small landing for the roof to access the tower ladder, which is in place…

the landing or what ever ya want to call it is below the base of the tower. Will have to get a better shot of it later…

I wanted a lantern for my engineer/fireman to hang on the side by the door. well I don’t have any on hand so I tried to make one for now. I used a dowel 5/8 dia or something like that. Put it in the drill press chuck and off I went. Final size is 1/2 inch high by 5/15 dia. I used a piece of wire for the bail… I still need to paint it so it can hang on the bracket that I bent out of a copper staple from a large shipping box.

Here it is hanging… i also have a couple of barrels that I had from the junk box to use…

Up next smoke stack for the shack so the “pump” doesn’t freeze up… It will be painted something …black or grey or whatever I find…

So that’s where I’m at. A few more things to get done. Need to cut a piece of “glass” for the window and may attach a small sign near the door. And get the lantern painted.

Thanks for looking, Travis

Nice looking build;)

Travis, the blades are painted really well. And I especially like the little nail holes at the bottom of the boards on the hut, very realistic and cool looking.

I hope you don’t mind, but in desperation I shamelessly stole your idea for the “doorknob” for the door Dave sent to all of us!

Thank You John… As long as you bring my Door Knob back… I filled it in with glue, You may have to do it twice to get it to fill properly. It seems to shrink up a little into the slots of the phillips head. That was all I had to use for filler at the time… maybe something better to use…

I have finally finished!. I have the tower fastened to the building, which was some what a problem at first. I Didn’t want to just glue to the tar paper roof, it probaby would get torn off. So it is very rigid now . There is a piece of wire going from the top thru roof that is tightened up to secure it. you can see it in this photo. I did this to kinda represent the shaft that came down from the top to operate the pump jack that would have been at the well head I may change it later…not sure…

The window now has “glass” in it. Vandals knocked out the old “glass” . Now that the new glass is in, the railroad had to put up a keep out sign near the door…

Next I am framing the wood box used for storing coal or wood, cant’t let the mill pump freeze up in the winter…

The Stove pipe before final sanding and painting…

And finally the finished structure…

I am going to try to get outside in natural lighting to get better pictures. The lighting in the house is not very bright… I want to take some better pictures anyways for the final judging and it sitting next to my water tower I have built this for…

Thanks for taking a look… Travis

Wow! Great detail, Travis!

I like the detail and that your build looks like it actually grew out of a napkin!
That sure is a long way up that ladder.

Well done.
