Travis's 2016 Mik's Build Challenge FireHouse

Very cool build I do like the colors

Coming along nicely Travis…very clean, neat work and the color is perfect I think, especially for a firehouse. The grey windows and trim are just right too. Very nifty trick with that bell. Are you using metallic paint on it? Also, I’ll be interested in seeing what kind of signage you come up with.

John the bell was made from a oak dowel on my lathe. I painted it with a school bus acrylic yellow that I had on hand. I gave it two coats to allow some of the wood to show so it would look a little tarnished. Thanks…Travis

Got most of the roof on this week and the doors started. Hopefully will have this done by the weekend…

“I love you daddy ” Aw, that’s sweet.

Looking good Travis!

Roof and vent cap is done!!!. Managed to not even cut myself once too. So now onto finishing the doors that are started and install the widows and finally the sign. Almost forgot that…

Nice job, Travis, I like the way you did the doors

Jerry

It’s showing a lot of good progress, Travis, and I don’t know where you get the dexterity for those little window pieces, but it works. I’m watching to see how you do the ridge part of the roof. Dave sent us some flat pieces of tin which I’m assuming are for ridges and flashing, but I haven’t been successful yet in making the ridge look right, and I’m probably won’t even try flashing. Also, I’m curious as to how you will finally treat the tin? Will you age it at all? paint it?

Looking good. The colour and building details are perfect.

The roof is complete!!! A couple of views…

Gluing down the ridge cap…

The main roof ridge cap…

Tower roof cap.

What was left over… Maybe enough for a roof on a Privy…

And the doors almost done and ready to hang…

This is all for tonite. I will hopefully have this completed by Sunday afternoon… Still need to get the sign painted, lettered and hung too.

Forgot to add… The windows were also permanently installed… Doors will be sanded and painted with grey again to touch up the cracks… and I need to make some hinges…

Really nice Job Travis. The whole station has a great feel to it. You’ll have to find some truck to fill it up now. Maybe a dalmatian too.

cool

Ok, I have the doors done and ready to hang…

I used Aileron hinges for my doors. I just trimmed them down to what I needed and will the cut the pin off when I get the trim fitted. I am thinking f taking a small piece of magnet to hold the doors closed. I may add this on the inside at the top. Up next the sign…

Travis

I really like how you have stuck with pretty much wood for everything except the tin which is required and the hinges which is necessary!

Nice work

Travis

Looks very nice, I like your design

Dennis

I like those hinges, could you elaborate on what an aileron hinge is?

Airplane flap I believe.

Very nice build.

They’re plastic hinges used on model airplanes that work the rudder, elevators and ailerons on the wings.

I had been using them to work the wings on my snow plow.
