Devon, Ken and John are correct. The hinges are used for model aircraft. I picked them up at a hobby shop. You can get them in packages of six or in bulk packages. I clipped the end off of the hinge pin pulled it out and then cut with scissors the shape I wanted. They are made of a nylon type plastic, so they cut pretty easy with scissors. I the roughed them up with sand paper to hold the paint. The package I picked up was 6 pcs. 2.50 cents total.

I like those hinges, could you elaborate on what an aileron hinge is?
They’re plastic hinges used on model airplanes that work the rudder, elevators and ailerons on the wings.
I had been using them to work the wings on my snow plow.
WAIT??? I don’t want to invade this thread but Ken has a snow plow???

Then why are ya?..(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)
Who is this David Russell character anyway? For someone who is new he already has over 9 thousand posts. At first I thought it was rooster in disguise but then I saw that he was “well respected” and knew that couldn’t be right.
ROFL
Benevolent Bob, our fearless leader, erased all the negative ratings last week.
I saw the steam from the fowl melt down … the only perch came from a past lament.
I guess it’s nice to be missed.

Mr. Russell I do not think that this Brunt guy has a snow plow of any sorts. He’s stated many times he is allergic to snow I believe.
But if he does you can believe it is still as new.

Mr. McDonald I once believed as you , but I think Mr. Brunt has been pulling a fast one on us with this statement.

Clearly he owns a plow

I’m sorry Travis!
I figured it out. Rooster is really very upset by the sudden “well respected” reputation and in his embarrassment has switched to an alias.
What ya sorry for David?..

For starting a discussion that is off topic and does not pertain to you’re fantastic build thread.
Edit: because I should have read it twice before posting!
No problem…lol The volunteer F.D. is looking for cars or trucks to use for extrication training. they stopped by yer house and picked up a vehicle to use. They promised to bring it back when done…LOL (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)
Finished the sign this evening. Not what I really was wanting but it will work. The finished sign can be seen on the finished building. I forgot to take a seperate photo…
Stove pipe cut and glued with paint started. Also square piece covered in tin foil for the outside wall. Couldn’t get the tin flashing to bend correctly so cheated and used some tin foil…
Up next, the downspouts. I built two of these for each front corner. You will see in the following photos one is different than the other, but still made the same way. Painted them black. I didn’t have any silver or tin colored paint on hand so that is what I went with.
The down Spout was made from 3/16 dowel rod. glued and painted flat black. Same for the stove pipe but only 5/16 diameter dowel.
Well Now for the finished building. I officially called it done at 3 am. this morning… Whew!! (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-surprised.gif)I had some issues today where I knocked off the hinges on one door and had to re glue them. I used E-6000 the second time around. I think the plastic the hinge is made of wont allow the craft glue to adhere very well, However they are stuck now… Forgot to mention and add pictures of the eaves trough. This was made from five pieces sides, bottom, and two ends. Not sure if it is period correct for this type of building, but it is mine…lol. So on to the pictures…
Front view…
Rear view…
Side view…
One thing I have noticed and it really bugs me is that the belfry is tilted a little. It must have moved when the glue was setting. No changing it now. I think it is ready for Challenge town. I want to find a 1940’s era fire truck sometime in the future for it. A few things I learned along the way with using tin roof… The next time it will be the very last thing added. Reason for this is I had to lay it on its top many times and moving it around to work on it is easily dented. Two… Corners can be sharp if ya forget to trim them. Seems like I was snagging my shirt on them many times. Lesson learned… I had fun with this and have been enjoying watching the other Awesome builds that are going on and learning more techniques to improve my skills. I chose not to weather the tin on this building as it was a “New” structure for town. So next building with tin will be weathered roof. My expenses for this build was a tube of E-600 $3.00 a bottle of gray acrylic paint .79 1 package of 6 Dubro Aileron hinges 2.50. Everything except for the tin roof which was what we started with from Awesome “Tin Man” Dave Taylor I had on hand. It is framed with 3/16 plywood Luan plywood with 1/2 square cedar posts. Everything you see in the pictures I made from cedar except for the barrel, I had on hand. Evenually I want to put a couple of LED lights in and some “glass” for the windows and maybe finish some of the interior walls that can be seen… Thanks to all who have followed along on the Fire House build this year and all of the compliments and posts… THE END…
What a great building! Very sharp looking! nice detail with the gutters and sign in front! Well Done!
You reached the end well. A great finish!
Well done, nice job Travis.(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)
