Haha, glad im not alone.
New England Style Winter has finally arrived at the C.V.S.Ry. with the over-hyped Blizzard of 2015. Yesterday the doom-and-gloom predictions were for up to 36" of snow and 60Mph winds. Fortunately that did not materialize at this end of the state. We got maybe 6" and some wind. But to be sure it is freaking cold outside! After digging out and cleaning off the cars I decided to take some photos of the railroad. In honor of Ken and his sage philosophy of winter railroading I took them from inside through the window :]
The snow is a bit more impressive against scale structures. The outhouse at Wall Station is no where to be found and the light is just barely visible…

The church and hotel in Wall Township have made the call for help digging out…

The bridge at Indian Hill doesn’t look too bad - that’s maybe 3 scale feet on top of the rails…
(http://lsc.cvsry.com/post5/Blizzard2015-03.JPG)
But the abandoned station at Indian Hill isn’t looking too good…

And the watch tower at Indian Hill Junction reveals some of the deeper drifts…

A wider shot of the junction…

Railroad crews realize now why they were asked to glaze the windows of the engine shed. Last summer they were enjoying the flow-through ventilation. Not so much today…

And it may be a few weeks before trains reach Deep Cut again…
I considered running the plow but the urge passed quickly
Good man!
Glad you made out with only 6 inches John! Rockwall Canyon has over 2ft and its still snowing! I’m starting to wish I had finished my raised loop, as the rest of the line is surely gone til spring!
Well the blizzard was a bust. Only around 15-18" of snow.
Passenger station, covered platform and water tower.
Train shed.
Farm houses somewhere under that snow.
Depot and switching tower also buried in snow.
Enjoy!
Dennis
Dennis you are funny “Well the blizzard was a bust. Only around 15-18” of snow." Spoken like a true New Englander.
We got over 20" or so it seems, hard to tell with al the drifting. Yeah it wasn’t THE STORM OF THE CENTURY that the media was scaring us with but I think anything over 6" is a pretty good storm. Today the temps are in the upper 30’s and thers is a lite rain so melting is happening and buildings are starting to appear on the RR.
Nice pictures. Glad you guys are taking up my slack. Im a little jelouse I cant join in the winter fun.
Jon I bet your glad you put buildings out. Makes it so much more fun watching the snow pile up around them. Brings everything to life in the snow. (shut up ken )
We lucked out from the last storm, only 4.5 inches. We got 3 inches today and 8 last weekend. Still over a foot on the ground.
Neat snow photos… Keep them coming… Just glad we don’t have any, but sure like to look at yours and like Shawns good idea on a fire due to it cold here and he got the right idea.

my lips are sealed…
We had another 6 or 8 inches yesterday but the wind has kept the covered bridge open here are some shots:
looking north toward Winnegance you can see the snow drifts are pretty deep
here is a shot at the south end
Gentlemen,
wondrful photos of playing with trains in the snow.
Dave
Got some time to clear some snow to run something. We did get some snow!
Had to use a real 1:1 shovel
I ran the plow to cleanup the small stuff!
I did take a video and I will try to post it later!
Excuse the cross-post. I wanted these pictures to be in the same thread as the same ones from last weekend…
This one has definitely surpassed the Epic Blizzard from last week with much less hype. The hotel and church at Wall are no longer visible. Thankfully all residents evacuated last week…
And the valley is full of snow under the bridge at Indian Hill…
At Indian Hill Junction the Watch Tower is barely visible and the abandoned station is just a bump in the snow…

Crews have abandoned the train shed at Pine Summit…

And Deep Cut has all but disappeared under the snow…
This post is an experiment in using very large photos. These photos are 1620x1080 pixels, but the new software is automatically resizing them to fit in under 720 pixels wide. The full size photo can be seen if your browser supports the View Image function (In Forefox, in the right click menu).
I probably would not use photos this big again as writing the post is pretty difficult because the editor displays the pictures full size.
This is a photo from last year but it still applies today except now there is more ice and the shoveller has quit.
The rotary was found but it took another week of digging to find and free the locomotive to push it.
Here’s my two GP project engines out for the first time on the mainline for a little testing.
These are models of the new Reading and Northern GP39RN engines that are GP30 bodies built to modern GP38-2 standards.
And here’s some NS Bethgons in the snow.
Here’s a closer shot of those GP units.
I need to make a little hook on the tip of the plow to hold the air hose up. The real one has a hook and clearly this unit needs one, too.
Nice shots CZ, especially the one with the pickup in it. Very deceiving…

Thanks, Bob. I’m planning a lot of photos this year having vehicles in them. Stay tuned for more!
Great photos! You seem to have just about the right amount of snow!
