Vincent,

That is Aristocrafts 2-8-8-2 Mallet Based upon the N&W’s Y-3 class steam Locomotives

This Locomotive came from Aristo with a USRA 4 Axle Tender, I took and kitbashed a later version long haul Tender using 2 Aristo Pacific Tenders a set of 3 axle Vanderbilt trucks a scaled down bachmann dog house for I think the K27’s and custom vinyl lettering and a few other bits and pieces, also a brass number plate that i machined at work for the smokebox door. I also did the large piping and relocated the headlight to the upper part of the deck as well

like these that I did for Raymond Manley

2017’s front end in this pic the original USRA tender is still in use

After the clouds moved in and it cooled a little from 35C (95F) was able to get out and run a short train for awhile. Here are a few pics.

Nice!!! Thats certainly a curve worthy of a logging railroad…

I took out my maintenance train today…and yesterday. I can only stand a couple of hours - very hot…very humid.

The Shay makes a good locomotive for this as it runs rather slow…

Here it is passing Salmons Produce

And coming up to the coal and water stop…

The task today was to replace all the different screw types with one. I had fastened the track down with square drive, phillips, and star drive. I converted them all to star drive - this should make future maintenance a lot easier as I won’t have to constantly change bits.

While I was at it, I leveled the track.

The flat car holds the hardware, while the gondola holds all of the tools and shims.

My odometer car tracks speed and distance. I usually just let the train continue around while I work on a section.

Not many people on the streets on Sunday morning.

Bruce, nice shots…

I was out there this morning doing the same thing. Only I didn’t have the benefit of any shade…had to change shirts when I was done…

I’m ahead of you, Ken. The shade didn’t help - my shirt was soaked and VERY dirty. When I was done, I just took off my shirt and threw it away…

At least we’re getting down to the low 70s tonight.

Nice. Every time I see pictures of those Delton coal hoppers I wonder why I don’t ever run my collection. One of my favorite cars.

The coal hoppers are nice. I have been trying to get a few but they want way too much for them on ebay.

Starting tomorrow I will have ten days off. Cant wait to run some trains.

Jon I was lucky to get three of them. the one you see in the pic has my batt. in it. Regards,Ron

I really like the shadows on Salmons Produce …especially the gable trim one

I was buying them up when they were the cheapest Aristo/Delton car available at around $30 each. When I started selling off my Aristo/Delton collection a few years ago I wisely held on to all of the hoppers and a few of the box cars. I’ve updated the boxcars to Accucraft body mount couplers and added air hoses to run in my FN3 train as a small early car. Maybe I’ll update the grab irons and steps to proper size, but for now they don’t bother me.

I should install couplers on a few hoppers to run behind my Shays. Just need someone to send me some motivation.

It ain’t much but I installed a couple of switches connecting my lower loops together and had to test them out. With the horrid weather we have had I have had little opportunity to work on the railroad!

Finally a reasonable day to run trains. Still warm & humid, but not as bad as it has been. My back has been bothering me so no switching today, but I felt good enough to get the camera out and crawl around taking low level shots :]

C.V.S.Ry. Shay No. 5 got the call to shove a Photo Freight out to the wye, then around the wye a few times for the photographers. Here the Caboose No.10 leads up the grade past Wall station…
