I must have been good this year . I got a couple of AML hopper cars , one undecorated and one CSX and a CN autorack from USA Trains. Also got three sets of Kadee 903 couplers for these cars and my annual cheep RC helecopter that i’ll most likley have destroyed in a couple of weeks. At least they are a good source of minature screws for future projects.

Mike,

AML Hoppers are nice, wish they were out before I bought 126 of the 100 tonners from the

now out of business largescale company.

Nick

I got a NWSL Chopper2 and an IMac.
Just for fun Jill bought me a Syma series 2 mini helicopter ! Now that’s a lot of fun. Might get myself a larger one.

I received a gift certificate from one of my sons and I have a Chopper 2 on the way also, plus some other model tools.

I was allowed to write my daughters tuition check to the Univ. of Sussex

I got a trip to Oregon…(oh, wait a minute, I bought that)…

some might not count giving money as receiving a gift.
but i completely understand your feeling. my youngest daughter just signed up for the admission tests at university.

Joe Zullo you will wonder why you never bought a Chopper 2 before. Excellent piece of kit.

OK, I know it’s a little late for Christmas presents, But, I got one this morning…

Walked into Lil Nashville truckstop this morning, and one of the waitresses comes up and says… AAron brought you in a present, and it’s in the owners office…

So, I find the owner, and he takes me back to the office, and shows me this long heavy wooden handle item… I look at the bottom of it, and can’t believe my eyes… It’s a real, actual one man freight car moving jack…

Talk about a wonderful gift… Seems the local FS farm supply had 2 of these laying around, and they were going to trash them… But, I got one of them…

You lucky devil!

PS how about a picture, I’ve never seen one of those!

See, Andy…I told you that you should have put wheels on your Caboose…if you had, you would have a use for it…!!

Actually the correct name is Car Mover. when placed against a car wheel and on the rail head with the long handle raised, positions a shoe against the wheel, such that the action of pushing down on the handle forces thru cam action the shoe to push the wheel, and move the car.

Yeah, We need pics Andy!!!

Rod,

I have to agree with you. I used it a couple of times now and I must say I am impressed with it.

Thanks Jane! It’s like a prybar adapted for RR purposes.

Joe,

Be aware that the Chopper II has a few slight problems…

One, the cutting pad after some use begins to wear a groove where the blade touches. This is easily solved by rotating the pad as one side gets worn. I’ve yet to replace the entire pad, but I have a feeling in the future I will need to. The second more critical problem I have noticed is that your cuts will NOT always be a perfect 90 degree cut. With thicker material the blade likes to wander the further down the cut you go. This results with the end material having a ~ shaped end instead of a - type end. Hope this clarifies? So if you want a completely smooth cut you have to finish the piece off with a quick swipe or two with sandpaper.

Craig

Craig,

I’ve already experienced the ~90º cut on 3/16 bass wood strips. It was perfect on coffee stirrers.

I don’t think the groove on the pad is detrimental to anything though. Thanks for your input.

If you want to see one of those car movers in action, and a very cool video, NFB Canada produced this video

Bob,

You were right, a very cool video.

I have posted that video on all the fora (model railroading) that I use. It is a great video and I never tire of watching it.

It was the inspiration for my model.
