Years ago and I mean many years ago (1955-56) and a year out of high school I worked for a local feed and coal dealer in southern Wisconsin. We would receive cars of chunk or stoker coal which the railroad would often not spot correctly. So we would need to move a hopper on occasion a few feet with one these car movers. Two of us, neither weighed over 150 pounds, would bounce on this thing till we get the car to move. Once moving you would quickly slide the mover on the rail to keep the momentum. So they do work, with a great deal of effort!
