Nice wooden detail on the cupola !
How did you repeat cut the endtails on the rafters?
The 4 posts (uprights) are screaming chamfered edges or lambs tongues.

The paint scheme is the painters idea. Got some more trim on. The front overhang is actually a balcony and it will have scroll work under it.
The rafter end cuts were done on a bandsaw and sanded one at a time. Chamfered edges would look nice, I will have to think on that.
They sure did make fancy buildings back then, I find that I look at architecture differently after I started building models. I see so many I want to do and I start figuring out how I would do them.
I understand !
Stick and Eastlake are my favorites!
OHâŚand Marie needs more paint colors to choose fromâŚI personally love Sherwin Williams Historic pallet for ideas.
I had to look up more examples of Stick and Eastlake architecture I was not familiar, I like it.
We get our paint from a small local hardware store and they carry Benjamin More paint, like most they mix them so we can get any color, we buy the sample jars and have several colors.
Mark, consider asking your paint guy if the paint sample stable out doors.
We can only get indoor stable paint samples, here. It might pay to buy some empty cans and fill with A WEATHER resistant paint, then mix.
Itâs exterior paint, he can and will mix any paint we ask for in a sample. The advantages of a small town store, we are in there some times several times a week. They go the extra mile for customer service.
Actually, Benjamin Moore is an excellent choice as well. They along with Sherwin Willliams have been around for almost 150yrs (I believe) and are recommended by historical societies as well for choosing historic colors. Not telling you how to chose colors only trying to help.
Here in the little town of Orbisonia we have two! And like you say, the service is amazing. Unfortunately the lumber yard that also carries hardware, electrical, plumbing and paint is closing. The owner wants to retire and no one is interested in continuing it
There is also a very well stocked True Valu hardware store that has been for sale for a while, same reason. The owner wants to retire. If they close, the nearest one is an Ace in Mt. Union 10 miles away. Lowes is 40 Minutes in Lewistown and Home Depot over an hour in Altoona. Loosing these local businesses is nearly inevitable because younger folk just arenât interested in doing that kind of work.
Jon;
Unfortunately, this is happening at the end of this month at The Rail Yard, the hobby store where I work part-time. Best retirement job I ever had. I will still work until the end of the year to help liquidate stock and fixtures, but then Iâll try to find another part-time job (otherwise Iâll be snowed under with âhoneydoesâ).
Regards, David Meashey
I agree. In Virginia City NV, I hear they make you stick with BMâs historic series for any structural paint.
My local hardware store is 4 miles away and is a Doitbest store, if he doesnât have it he can order it, they get a delivery ever Friday. The original owner retired last year and fortunately sold it to an employee and he seams to be doing good.
You took the time to put the lines in there so I personally think that the wife should take the time to make the lines pop?
Let her pick the colors and call it a date night. Have a couple glasses of your hard cider you make and paint away. It took me 3 beers to paint this ( bet you cant tell!!) I did tag it though.
The smallest architectural tunings I have ever done. They are for the fire house. Marie thinks I am crazy to spend so much time with such small detail.
Someoneâs got a very steady painting hand. Great work, both of you. And itâs inspirational seeing a wife & hubby teaming up on a project.
I was just saying thatâs all ?

Waiting for the roofing ordered from Ozark Miniatures almost three weeks ago, he is not the fastest in shipping.
Good as blue tarps nailed down were not acceptable for the time period.
