If I didn’t know, I’d need the stinkin hints

Looks great! That transition dorm is nice. Can tell right away just by looking at the windows. Do you plan on making a sightseer lounge? I haven’t a clue on how you can do a lounge with the way you made the roofs on your cars thus far.
Greg,
I’m the one looking for hints. I think I’ve got it now though. I’ll blame it on my local hobby shop not being local and not stocking all available materials. I’ll be in Buffalo tomorrow and if mother’s doctors appointment doesn’t get crazy I’ll stop and see if they are willing to order it for me? Otherwise I’ll need to source it elsewhere. That shot of the grill did it for me.

At this point I think I would like a sleeper and a diner, as you noticed on the transition dorm the diner is attractive to me because of the arrangement of the windows and venting etc. These models are not even close to perfect. 10' rule applies and quite difficult to model the details without getting anal...... It's only a hobby! :)

If you consider those cars 10 foot rule material, you’d better view my stuff from 50 yards

They look nice David, great work. You can make a wood form, the shape of the observation car, minus the thickness of the clear plastic. Cut the clear plastic, then put the form in the oven, with the clear plastic over it, once it droops down, pull it out and hold it down with mittened hands and you’ll have a nice clear dome. That’s how I did my streamliner cars.

Page 11?
How many pages does it take to build a passenger car? Andy, time to take the boy to the woodshed I think.
OK…fresh page of progress…I normally do a Sunday night photo dump but gonna start a day early as I have a bit to share. I got the underside ends figured out with coupling, etc… and making them removable in typical Rooster fashion. I started by making multiple’s of these.

Then used CA to put them together on 3mm pvc board as a base. I used Kadee@ 820’s as couplers and they have enough swing body mounted for a 4.5’ radius. I have yet to securely mount the ends but very pleased with the results.

Next step is checking swing on the ends…I want these cars too make a 9’ diameter circle even though they don’t look good doing such it’s a matter of knowing that they can and a challenge that I enjoy. The diaphrams are touching with closed couplers but pull out about 1/2" when drawn on. The rest of the pictures will tell the story of my continued trial and error findings. Yes I do have my decals ready to go and many thanks to the graphic designer that made them. That decal is only a test (wait did I say test?) and will not be used.

I know that the Trans dorm diaphram is not proper. Have only 2 ends roughed up so far and they are for that car. Used the low end and tacked the diaphram on the high side. Scotch tape has been my friend on these mock ups so far. As John B says…“That’s all for now”

I see you got the roof line straightened out. They’re some fine looking work Rooster No matter how many pages and the pics do help
Amazing work. But you’re going to have to lube the diaphragms and keep the doors locked when traversing those tight curves - don’t want any passengers stepping out into nothing :o
Still picking away at these cars and not much more to share but I forgot to add last night the height and size comparison shots. I also ran them around SLOWLY on the RR today(it’s a mess from this winter)…they are top heavy but I think I have a solution for this. Coupled to LGB’s Genesis they ride about where they should looking at prototype pictures. I’m thinking the Genesis is about 1:25 or so in my height findings.

Coupled to the F-40 I built which I dubbed 1:29. I never had exact prototype height of this loco and it was based by eye but the cars also ride about where they should on height comparison.

Today’s outside pics. Put the Trans dorm diaphram back where it it should be as well.

IMHO I think you ‘nailed it’ Rooster! The BEST bread boxes I ever seen. Looking pretty fine to me. All of the other SG guys are gonna want those, I’m sure.
They look sharp out there.
sharp…

Those cars look really good.
It puts my work to shame.

truely beautiful…
