Matt, You don't happen to have the prototype length on the 1700 series baggage ?
Guessing 85' since they were old coaches converted to baggage cars. I know they are longer then the 73' former Santa Fe baggage cars of the heritage fleet. So likely 85' on the 1700 series.

Good looking Transition Dorm

So David, seeing the roll of metal duct tape there, I assume that is how you get your metallic look. I like using it, pretty versatile stuff.

…winking…

He’s just trying to get it to Page 7.

Thanks Matt...... Couldn't really find any info on it but I didn't search that hard either. It would only be correct to see one coupled to a Transition Sleeper ya' know.

Its been three days and no updates. Come on slacker.

Updates on what?

David, anything more on the Superliners?

Jerry, Haven’t got much going on with them lately due to family responsibilities and end of the year closing out business bookwork etc. I’m currently working on a Transition Sleeper/Dorm , once finished with that I would like to start adding details and get a plan together for the trucks. However this plan could change. This is all I have for now on the 3rd car. I can also tell you that not every roll of that tape is the same. The new roll has heavy glue backing in spots creating lumps and wavyness. It’s on there now so I’m just gonna have to deal with it. Side A

The trio

Note they are sitting under the chop saw and they way things have been going I could end up with multiple SUPER EGGLINERS!!! If that happens you know I went off the deep end but perhaps the Polk family may see this and come out with a new line??

Those are going to look great with your powered boxcar. LOL

Rooster though you may have tried, would a heat gun help smooth out the glue lumps ?

I prefer the 3 on the workshop bench, those are not bowed…

Coming along nicely, son…

David, I found the metal duct tape from True Value was better quality than the stuff from Walmart. Not sure if that could be your problem or not. Nice to see the new pix! You are quite a craftsman. Keep up the good work.

Jerry,
Both rolls came from here and made by the same manufacturer. I always start here first!

Don’t worry about the bumps.

The real cars have lots of love taps if you look for them. The dorms seem to have a lot. Could be because they are typically the first Superliner in a consist and more prone to damage from debris, derailments, wrecks, grade crossing incidents, etc…

Very COOOOL.

OK working on ideas and mock up’s for tackling the end plates on the cars. I’m gonna start with the transition dorm as I’m kinda disgusted with the roll of tape I’m currently using. Take note to the wavy lines on the large flat pieces but the bonus is you really cannot see these lines in natural light outside. I started with 1/16" pvc board as the base, cut holes for HEP cables, made the door surround from 1/4" square plastruct and the door itself is made with .020 styrene with black vinyl for a window.

The sections are then put together and glued in place. Notice that the tape is done in 3 layers as it’s only 1 7/8" wide plus it adds to the detail with seaming shown.

I laid the mock up on the end of the car and fairly pleased so far as its a good start. The diaphram(not glued or fastened yet) is from USA trains cut in 1/2. Dave “Hollywood” Marconi and myself had a serious discussion on this issue and it’s quite tedious to do. I’m not sure if I want to cut into the 1/4" pvc board on the end of the cars to make the proper recession for the HEP cabling. I tried on one side and ended up putting the piece back in and filling the cut line as it’s quite a bit of work for something that really will not be seen. I may change my mind on this though.

That’s all for now and hope to make some more progress tomorrow.

Pro-gress is better than Anti-gress, which is better than having to Re-gress; and way better than Con-gress.
