Good point, Ralph…never thought of that…;
I got boob’s on my mind again. But watching your build Jerry.

Actually I was thinking the same thing as Ken when I saw all the seating. However then I thought the same thing as Ralph and to me it just would make sense for all that seating. Besides how do you know if those bench seats aren’t fold out beds for when the crew has had too many bheers from the dispenser and cannot steer the plow any longer.
I got a bit more done on the rotary. Side vents are on and cut out and I started on the back, using a Aristo B smoke unit fan for the fan it had on the back. Cut around the stock door also. After this, I should get the roof glued on(once I get a light in the cab) and then can start covering it with the adhesive backed metal duct tape. Will emboss a rivet pattern on it, the one in the UP roundhouse is so shiny you can hardly take pix of it, won’t be quite that much, but should be pretty neat.

Can’t wait to see picture of it in action!
I got back to the rotary, got rained out on barn painting-okay by me. Just a bit of trim left. Anyway here I’m using the metal foil duct tape with an adhesive backing. I emboss the rivets with a pounce wheel(from the back) and the lines with a ball point pen(from the front).

I also added the scrapers below the rotary housing to help scoop the snow in.
Its really starting to look like something now! Nice rivet panels. That’s metal duct tape?

I like the tape technique. Looked good on your steamer too. Now than the steamer has been in service for a while, how is it holding up? Do you need to be careful when handling it so that you don’t scratch in any unwanted details?
Looking good so far Jerry!
Brian,
I believe its a very thin type of foil insulation tape used for assembling duct work seams. Not the duct tape or 200mph tape your thinking…however I could be wrong. Guess we’ll have to wait and see what Jerry says.

Looks good!
I ought to get me one of those pounce wheels someday.
It’s Nashua Tape Products Foil Tape #322. Got it at True Value(closing soon . I just saw something like it at Walmart, it was in the paint/glue area Metal Duck tape or some such name. It’s just aluminum foil with adhesive, has a peel off backing. Pretty thin stuff but darned handy.
Has held up well on the Challenger, it runs fine. I didn’t put much detail on, so have not broken any off! Glad I didn’t, darned thing is pretty big so hauling it out to the track can be a hassle.
That Venture tape may be thicker. Stuff I have is .007" thick, with the backing. .004 with just the metal. Thin can be pretty handy for some things, thicker can be better for others. I’d get the stuff at Walmart as a last choice, since most of their items are acquired by getting the lowest price out of the manufacturer. They are always my last choice, but will soon be the only thing in town.
The pounce wheel is pretty handy, you can get them with different sizes of prongs and spacing. I have an old leather tool one that I use for bigger rivets and it has larger spacing. There are sewing pounce wheels also, I think.
Jerry that tape comes in differant grades check Dave R’s link. Also the stuff at Walmart doesn’t have the backing just glue so it would be hard to run the pounce wheel over it. Watch what you guys buy
Thanks Dave, points out my doubts about Walmart. Higher priced items tend to be of better quality, but not always.
Well I took two days off the rotary to clean and re-organize my work room, it was getting pretty bad. I got pretty serious and cleaned out storage bins and stacked/organized them for more efficient use and now hopefully I will put things away more and be able to find them. Feeble hope, I know! Anyway, I got back to the rotary and got one side done with the foil, has the doors embossed. Also a flanger underneath. Still need to do the other side and the upper area. I will place the foil on up above, with the window patterns embossed, then cut out the areas that are glass, once the foil is adhered. Did that on my McKeen car and it worked out well.

Looking good Sir!
Thanks Don, I appreciate it. Got the sides done, with the doors embossed, starting on the windows in the cab. Glass areas will be cut out later.

Jerry, I like that tape. Question how soft is the detail? Can you just pick up your models or do you have to use care in handling?
That’s coming along nicely.
David Marconi said:Jerry, I have the same questions as David. How soft is the detail? How about correcting a mistake, is that possible? Your detail is really great. Thank you for sharing.
