Jerry,
Judging by the orientation of the impeller blades, I would suggest turning your discharge 180 degrees the other way. I am not real sure how well it will throw snow in this configuration.

I found that the chute was not needed. Just some thing to clog. Rotation of blade determined which side it threw to. Just what I noticed on mine.

Are we going to get pictures of the barn??? :)
I got the primer on the east side today, found a fool to come paint the high parts on both ends, above 8’! He is coming on Sat to do that, if the weather holds.

The N leanto section is my wood shop.

I still need to scrape the south side and the west side, they have been power washed. The downspout has been hooked back up.
Jerry, nice barn and workshop…
Thanks Andy. I tested the blower with a 12 v and 18 v battery, using sawdust. 18v into the 12v drill motor is the way to go. Did find it threw the snow better going clockwise, surprised me. Threw lots better that direction. I thought, it would be best with the wide end of the blade coming around and scooping up the snow(sawdust) but it did better the other way! You were right Bob! I think I will make it so it goes either way and just have the discharge chute sitting on top when it is displayed. Now to making the body/cab! Looks like rain today, so no barn painting.
Dang, no barn painting??? Guess you’ll just have to settle for working on the snow plow… Of all the luck…
Got an inch of rain.
I got back to the rotary. NOw that weather is turning cruddy, I will have more time. I decided to do the inside of the cab, since it shows up so much and what the heck, I’m retired! No rush. The whole top will lift off for maintenance and battery changing.

The floor is attached to the top section, so will come out when it is lifted off.

Top will be glued on, once the interior is done. The rotary scoop just sits on there for looks, is removed for snow throwing.

The top curved piece still needs to be trimmed. The windshield does bump up in the middle like that. THe center seat in the cab is also up a bit.

I’ve chatted to people online who’ve run the rotary on the C&TS. They’ve said rotaries don’t much like icy snow, branches or rocks… tends to make them try to beat themselves to death. I imagine that wet snow, twigs, pinecones, acorns and such would have the same effect on a model. I guess, what I’m trying to say is, you might want to add a sheet metal inner housing or liner to keep things like that from doing any damage to that neat model.
The impeller looks a lot like the one in my Dirt Devil hand vac’
Mik,
I’ve been told they do dry snow okay, has to be like below 20 degrees also, Marty said, I think. Just having fun building it. Blade came with the B unit, off e-bay, so not sure of it’s source. Housing is a pipe cap for 4" pipe, seems pretty sturdy.
Jerry,
If you try using it, make sure you leave it somewhere that the Rotary will be the same ambient temperature. If the Rotary is too warm, the snow will stick like glue, no matter what kind of snow it is.
Bob C.
Yeah Bob, read that somewhere else. Thanks for the reminder, old brain ya’ know?
I used the pix I had taken of the rotary snow plows interior at the Cheyenne Roundhouse. I sized and squared them up with my Color It art program I use with my Mac.

I attached them to the plastic forms I made for the dash.

In the rear view the door down to the inside is a thin piece of plastic painted white.

Had a fun day!
Just out of curiosity, how big of a crew does a rotary snow plow use? With 3 seats and 2 bench seats, you can fit a whole bunch of people in the cab.
I was also wondering what the steering wheel is for. Changing the chute direction, maybe?
Might not be a good thing to wish on someone, but I can’t wait to see you operate it in the snow!..
Ken; you know durn well that there just gotta be a steering wheel, to keep the dammed thing on the track. I was looking for the bheer dispencer and brake pedal…and surely there should be a gun rack for service in the US of A…!!!
Nice work, Jerry.
Sorry Fred, lost my head there for a minute…

You know that the union requires a full crew to operate the plow.

Then what does a "full crew" consist of? You can fit 8-10 people in there...............maybe they give cab rides............;)
