Steve, wasn’t that an 80’s pop/rock band?

I found this photo in the “Random Photos” section on the home page.

Wow!

Great start, Mark Betlem. I especially like the duckunder. I wish I had thought of that! (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)Are there any more photos of your layout?

I saw this in “Radom Photos” also and had to investigate . . . who was building such fantastic stuff ! Just GREAT !

Thanks for the compliments. I have more photos on my profile page that you can view. I have been unable to bring any photos up here on the thread. I have tried to follow advice on how to do it but the info never matches up to what I have on the screen. I’m thinking that maybe my MacBook Pro is the issue in that it is not windows based. Anybody have any thoughtson that?

That is one fine looking railroad. Thanks for sharing. Later RJD

Well, slow as I am I just discovered this thread.

Great bit of engineering on that underpass Mark!

Your raised benchwork looks very solid too. Nice job for sure!

Richard, Thanks for that. The underpass project is one that I had been pondering for several years. I really didn’t think that the slope of the ground would allow me to dig down low enough and also if the benchwork would be high enough for clearance underneath. But once I had the benchwork height established I ran the numbers and made some scale drawings and determined that it could work. And it did. It is very convenient, fun to walk under, and allows for some great vantage points for viewing the layout.

The use of ground contact pressure treated 4X4’s did make the benchwork very solid. In some areas the span between bents is 7’ and still there doesn’t appear to be any sag. I tried to keep the weight on the benchwork to a minimum but even at that, with the use of crushed limestone ballast and mulch (tried to blend the benchwork with the garden areas), there has been no sag. I did use some rocks up there but tried to place them over the bents for better support.

Your Port Orford Coast construction masterpiece was my bible during the planning of this raised benchwork phase. Although I did make some modifications to cater more to my local topography and weather conditions, your work was my inspiration to even contemplate such a project. I want to thank you for that. It should be required reading for anyone concidering building a raised benchwork.

I finally got some drone photography of my layout which is now complete…well, as complete as they ever get. instead maybe I should say…is now presentable. My future son-in-law gets all the credit for the video and editing. Hopefully, with the help of so many of you LSCers’ computer coaching efforts, I can present this youtube video successfully.

That is so cool! I like the opening sound effects. Nice touch.

That is one beautiful layout! A lot of work is evident.

OK dang, that layout is beautiful. I love the elevated deck on the inside of the loop. The whole thing is well laid out and excellent use of a tough space. And the drone footage was just cools as well.

Thank you for sharing that.

Most excellent! Very creative use of space and nicely executed.

Was that diesel chugging in the beginning?(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

John

I like it!..(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)

What a beautiful looking layout… (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

OUTstanding!

Thanks for all of your great comments everyone! Now that it seems like I have this video posting down I will try to share more of it. The severe slope of the yard, especially towards the back (9 1/2’), created quite a challenge but also offered the opportunity for a lot of elevation within the landscaping. Being able to view areas at eye level, especially at the walkway underpass, is really cool. It also allows great access for live steam preparation.

Yes, please share more videos. That is an amazing layout!!! (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

that was educative!

i learned, that sons-in-law are not entirely useless,

that it is possible to make a relly very nice and laaarge layout without needing decades

and, that the world is unfair. - you worked many months, he some hours… and he gets the credits!

it was a pleasure, to watch this video!

That is one beautiful layout, loaded with lots of plants, lots of different eye catching levels needing bridges. You and your SIL have done a great job on the video. You have a very wonderfully designed layout you can be really proud of.

Thanks for sharing
