Large Scale Central

Notice, of the preparations for the 2012, Invasion of Friends

I’d like to know which one too…it may be a distance from the action…and the rate may be a weee bit high…

Phreddy you need to take a trip arround the neighbourhood on the garden tractor and visit the local chambermaids at the Hotels/Motels. See where the best deals are to be had for a clean room near by.
And then pass that info onto our American Friends.
PS: Charm the maidens for the inside scope…you can do it.

I’m staying hopefully, at the same one bruce is staying at, Holiday Inn, Ottawa West, Nepean, 45 Robertson road, Ottawa, ON K2H 5Y9… front desk 1-613-690-0100…

She quoted me a rate of 129.00 a night…

That’s the one I’m at, Andy. Haven’t stayed there before, but it looks good.

Trying to convince Martha we want to stay there…

Hell…that’s dirt cheap if they are hosting you!
Next year it will be double

Son, sorry, you can’t come… No pets allowed…

Ok…that isn’t too far away…and the price isn’t bad…

No, it's not but it makes may camping choice nearly even in cost including the extra gas :) Still trying to raise gas money. Anyone want a nice set of Pearl Drums ?

Got our room. Staying at The Monterey Inn.

Good choice…

And for those of you who haven’t heard and are interested on your way home:

Friends Invasion July 23, 2012
Finger Lakes Live Steamers
302 Clyde-Marengo Road
Clyde, New York 14433
The last event of the 2012 Invasion will be on Monday July 23 at the Finger Lakes Live Steamers
layout in New York’s Finger Lake region. In addition to our Gauge One layout shown below the
club also has 7 ¼” gauge (1.5 inch scale) and 4 ¾” gauge (1 inch scale) tracks. As a result, we
will be able to give you train rides on the two larger scale layouts in addition to doing an
operating session on our layout.
The garden railroad consists of three electrified inter-connected loops. At one end of the
layout there is a 65’ wye leading to a waist-level trestle connected to the one inch turntable.
The wye tracks connect to the 190’ upper loop which is built on an embankment at the same
level as the trestle. There are two connecting tracks on a 1% grade to the lower level that
enable continuous running between the lower loop (250’) and the upper loop. In addition there
is a four turnout crossover into the inner 140’ loop.
If our testing works out we hope to do a passenger train (albeit without a time table) operating
session. We should be able to simulate up to six passenger trains running with interchange
between trains at our yard.
More detailed directions to the layout, pictures of all three layouts and more information can
be found at http://fingerlakeslivesteamers.org/.
Tentative Plan for the Day
Subject to what you all want to do let’s consider this the tentative plan. Presuming everyone
gets there around 11:00 we can show you around the club and offer some rides. We can do a
picnic lunch on-site as long as you are not sick of hot dogs and hamburgers again. After lunch
let’s do a formal operating session and rides on the railroads. For those of you who want to
stay over we recommend going out for dinner. Seneca Falls is close by and I would suggest
dinner at Abigails restaurant and the Microtel for lodging because they are adjacent to each
other. Hotel and campground information is listed below.

I have reservations at the Microtel in Geneva NY.

I’m trying to justify the Monday stop. I already spoke with Roger and we could camp Sunday night, but I’d need to leave very early Monday afternoon in order to get home before dark. Backing my trailer for 1/8 mile in the dark would be no fun. I really would like to see the place and it does break up the trip home for me.

Where do you have to back up your trailer for an eighth of a mile ?

(singing) Give me 40 acres, and I'll turn this rig around..... :)

Fred, Fred, Fred Fred [your question posted 4 times] My driveway is at the very end of a dead end street. There is no place to turn around so I need to back down the entire street, then down my curving driveway on an 10% grade. The street I could probably handle in the dark, but the driveway has a rock wall on one side and I have enough trouble keeping away from that when I can see :o

@Ken - I’m getting pretty good at backing up, when I take my time and don’t over think it.

That's the key, cause I do the same thing............;) Don't over think it, don't get over confident and don't over react. And I certainly can understand your concerns.

Andy, with a Mack, sometimes 40 acres isn’t enough…

We see impatient people backing up with their campers all the time. zoom…pull forward…zoom…pull forward…zoom…etc…
