Large Scale Central

Notice, of the preparations for the 2012, Invasion of Friends

Start preparing; Get your passports in order, make arrangements for loans from your childrens’ piggy banks; prevent any plans for weddings; keep the water levels low…the dates for the 2012 edition of the American Invasion of Friends are:

Starting, during the third week of July, on Thursday, July 19th, through to Sunday the 22nd.

Mark your calendars…you are all welcome. BRING BHEER…!!(And soda)

Fr.Fred

We’ve put it on the calendar. You guys have no idea how much fun you are missing.

Bringing it back to the top… time to plan…

Where’s everyone staying now? We had stayed at one place downtown, and the last time at a place further out of town the other way.

Bob, Bruce mentioned something about a Holiday inn express… I googled holiday inn express and it gave me a choice of 6 hotels, so I sent him an email, asking about it…

I’d prefer to stay where other friends are staying…

Monterrey Inn…it’s out toward the airport…or bring your tent and camp with Ric & Jan at the campground…

I usually stay at the Starwood Bed & Breakfast…

“Starwood B & B”

Is that the place that puts a mint on your pillow in the evening and you get breakfast in bed?

The saloon/hotel on the Dry Gulch Railroad at Hershey Park back in the 1960s had a sign painted on its side wall that proclaimed: “Room & Board (to sleep on)”

Hope all of you get better accomodations than that!

Have fun,
David Meashey

No, that’s the place where you hear the proprietor snoring…and ya make your own coffee…

But the beds comfy…

We're thinking seriously about that :)

Our B&B place shut down :( so we're going to try this place.

I think it’s fairly new and looks pretty nice, but this will be the first year there for us.

It’s about 15 minutes from Fred’s place.

It's a good half hour drive south of Fred's place, and about 15-20 minutes from Doug's, but it was very nice. I can't remember the name of it, but it was on the Rideau River and it was a provincial park. Ric could probably give you all the info on it.

Rideau River Provincial Park - been there twice. Nice setting. Plenty of spots for both campers and tents. Well kept facilities with plenty of hot water. Need to lock up your “Old Glory”, because the locals exchange them for “Maple Leafs” during the night, but also leave you plenty of fire wood.

No complaints. Looking forward to our next visit.

The campground we stayed at twice out beyond the Monterey Inn. An easy 20 minutes or more from Fred’s: Camp Hither Hills. It’s a commercial pace and just so-so. Ric & Jan saw it the first year. The only advantage over the Provincial Park is water and sewer hook-ups. That isn’t as much of a problem not towing along a teenager any more. There are a few RV sites at the park within hose distance to the water source. Just need to bring a “Water Thief” to allow hook-up for tank filling unless they have threaded couplers. I have 40/40 gals of waste water capacity so that should hold us a few days.

Hm. Any issues going across the border either way with a camper in tow? We have a popup, and I don’t relish the idea of opening it up going through…

Going through at Ogdensburg, you shouldn’t have a problem It’s a bit more layed back then Watertown and not as crowded. Just don’t tell’em ya know me…

Not for me. Crossed twice with the RV. Once at Thousand Islands and once at Ogdensburg. They never even asked to look inside the trailer. If you grow your hair back just tuck the pony tail up inside your hat before you approach

Have your papers in order, go through the CAR lanes, not the truck lanes (made that mistake once), declare your 1 case of beer per adult and don’t admit to knowing Ken.

HA! Hadn’t seen Ken’s reply and we both offered the same advice
