BD: If you don’t trust me as much as the software, feel free to remove me from that list
So, BD, where’s the private lounge where us regular folks can go make fun of the peons?
I say he can be trusted
Breakdown of non-admin, non-suspended users:
- newuser (TL0): 251
- basic (TL1): 66
- member (TL2): 4474
- regular (TL3): 3
A select group, indeed.
Not sure what I did to get on that list - but cool!
I imported everyone that had posted as a TL2, to avoid any kind of forum limitations that I didnt/dont understand. That seemed like a reasonable thing to make everyone a ‘member’ from the Trust Level standpoint. I suspect that most of our regular forum users will end up as TL3 in the next couple of months, as they peruse the new site, edit their posts, and just generally continue to do what they always do.
So the TL0 and TL1s are all new sign ups since the change. That’s a nice number!
Look - you can put Regular in your title!
Did you know thread titles are editable? And you can change the category it’s filed under as well? Go to the first post of a thread you created and click the pencil next to the thread title.
Now I like that option
Is this a new feature?
I notice at the top of the page it says I have 37 unread topics, how can that be, I am on here everday,
I know i need a life.
Anyway clicking on it takes me to a page that shows about 40 of my old build thread posts that i had forgotten about. I just filled in the pictures and re-posted a couple of them. Kinda of a cool memory jogger for old guys that can’t remember all these postings.
Speaking of new features, how do you create a new topic? going to a given catagory I see no button for new topic, what did I miss while I was sleeping?
Go to a topic and click on the plus sign in the lower right corner of the page:
I think…
Edited to add:
Yes, that’s it. That plus sign will expand to have a label when you hover over it with your mouse (in a browser on computer, not sure how it works on a phone as it is not accessible to me right now), something like: + New Topic
Also, that plus sign is on the home page too.
I didnt understand what the difference is between ‘new’ and ‘unread’, or how they are determined, so I had to go look:
- By what’s ‘New’ to you: by default, new topics are those created in the last 2 days that you have not opened yet to keep the list fresh and relevant. New topics show a small blue dot next to the topic title
- By what topics are “Unread”: by default, unread topics are those that you have previously opened and read for at least 4 minutes, and that have new posts (replies) submitted to them. Unread topics show a number in a blue circle indicating how many new posts are in the topic.
Thanks Bob,
Those explanations sound resonable but I still don’t see how posts that are a dozen years old and I haven’t looked at them in 10 years can be marked un-read.
Maybe it means un-read lately
Thanks Jim,
Since a forum like this is mostly about “new topics or posts” that the way to create one would be a little more obvious for the tech challanged
I get the same result in unread. I chalked it up to having gone though my topic list checking threads.
Yea, that’s probably it.
