Well I have gotten alot of work done since my last post on the layout. I have applied the Home made Sculpt a Mold around the station. I have not added any zip texturing or dirt yet. waiting to do that all at once.
I have several other buildings that i am adding to the area. I went ahead and made bases for them and added the plywood strips around the edges.
There is a General Store and I wanted a diner made from a passenger car. So i planed ahead for the location. To hold the base in place I added hardpoints so I can screw the base in once they are done. The reason I do this is so one day they are not ripping these apart to sell them when I am gone.
Yes I am stupid. I took apart a Accucraft 1:20.3 Passenger car to make my diner …
Another one of my videos…
Awesome layout Landrel!! Going back to page 1 or 2, I would not mind more pictures of that Skyraider sitting on the layout. I have some people on facebook I am following from Germany, and they are modeling a special P-51 Mustang with contra-rotating propellers that flys at the Reno Air Races, and they are modeling in 22%, which looks close to your A1D.
Keep it up and keep the pictures coming, it is an inspiration to all of us , even us outdoor types
Check out Ty’s website. He does some very cool things with model airplanes, such as custom cockpits. http://www.tysplanes.com/
Thanks Guys,
I have been working right along Not many pictures though. I will take a few to bring thing up to date.
This last weekend was spent putting together an order of Cockpits that have waited for a month. I spent about 47 hours in the shop.

Hey Guys,
Its hard to believe it has been 2 months since my last full post I have done a few small things but have really been busy with family stuff. As always my wife is in Nicaragua for 2 week on a mission trip.
I always take that time off to get some things I want to do around the shop. I have been working on the ground cover around the peninsula. Getting some buildings in place and getting some basic ground cover in place…
I have built a couple retaining walls and blended in the the lift out section.
I was planning on getting most of the ground cover down for the next 2 weeks. So the next thing i need to do was to work on the area around the turntable. I figured out the width of the walkway. I laid stringers to lay the planks on the flat area.
I then filled in the area with dirt/grout. and allowed it to dry.
Thats a great turn table. I want to make a mini version.
thanks Devon…
I have gotten alot done over the past 2 weeks.
Next on the turntable I got the frame built up for the elevated walkway. I placed the vertical timbers in place and then added the horizontal stringers. …
I then stained all of the stringers and then added the home made scupltomold around the base.
Very cool
I then went and planked the whole thing. I did use a mixture of straight and angled planks to plank the whole thing.I used and straight beam on the center line of the round table to make sure that the planks were straight with the centerline.
I did make a hand rail system for the walkway but I feel its too early to install it. I may break them off while working on the layout.
I figured I would make it from something that that would normally hae on hand. So I cut some code 250 rail and drilled holes to accept the hand rails later…
As I was trying to get some of the ground cover in place i realized there was an area that I could not reach even with the the Top Side Creeper I have. So I decided to add a lift out to the layout. So I took my scroll saw and cut out a 12 x 18 inch piece of 3/4" plywood. I then glued 1/2" foam to the top of that.
I then added my homemade Sculptamold to the top making sure to keep the edges square.
I then placed plastic wrap over the area. I then folded the plastic over the lift out.
I then added sculptamold around the area and let it harden up before i lifted it out… I did have to sand the areas just a little to make the lift out pop up easily…
