With the help of Dave M. I found this from Mik.

Ok, we did it a couple times last winter, and I think we had fun. Now it’s time for another one! Subject(s): structure, non-rail vehicle, or mini scene. Size: 1 sq in to 288sq inches (2sq feet) actual Budget: Maximum of $10 in new expenditures - beg, borrow, trade, but please don’t steal whatever else you may need. This includes paint and glue. But we’ll spot everybody 1 new tube of glue and 1 new bottle of paint off the expense sheet. Fair enough? Qualifications: Must be a new project, entirely researched, planned and constructed during the challenge period. Challenge period will run Friday January 7 to Monday February 14 2011, beginning and ending at 10PM Pacific time. Giving you 37 days and/or 6 weekends. Entries with build log and materials/expense list should be posted on this forum no later than Friday Feb 18, 2011 Voting/Judging: The voting will be done by all general forum members, and will begin Sat the 19th and run through the following Friday the 25th. Judging will be based on the following: 1. Overall appearance/execution 2. Originality 3. Clarity of photo/description log. A maximum of 10 bonus points will be awarded to beginning builders to help level the field. There may or may not be a 4th category of ‘builder’s favorite’ determined by popular vote of the participants themselves. Prize? TBA OK, who’s in?That was in 2011, and he references doing it a couple of times in the previous winter (2010) SO… As of right now it looks like the first Challenge was 2010, unless we can find something sooner. I’ll edit the post.
Dave,
I don’t know if you saw this, but I quoted this earlier in the thread… I was thinking 2011 as the first year as being the specific “New Years Challenge”, as MIK mentions other challenges but I’m guessing they were taking place at different times.
If my memory is correct The very first should have been 2009 but ended 2010. (the new years challenge) I remember building this for it and it is dated Jan 2010

Then the second Challenge that was to be completed for April 2010 I built this.
I did manage to find the first voting for the very first challenge
Shawn , Thanks for digging that up… Was really neat to read thru it… Couldn’t see all the build pics tho from the links. Sure do wish Mik was here with us… I think he would be Happy / Proud that we are continuing this.
Last day to sign up, and I just came up with something totally different, but lack the time to get 'er done.
My idea is to take the panels and make a water slide from the Chameleon Caverns Hot Springs to the river below. I was even thinking of working a 360 loop into it for the round bit. But this would require me to engineer something to get the riders back up to the top or it just sits static and that’s no fun. Maybe next year.

@ALL… Some of you should have gotten your stuff today. Congratts… Devon, don’t worry about the drooling on them there are real alum., You can touch, handle, fondle and dream, but no cutting or building yet…
Dave, FYI: My packet arrived my Toronto addy Wednesday Jan 13 in excellent shape. A beautiful packaging job, contents and everything professional in every way.
Family matters have been intruding on my modelling/planning/online time. I hope to get with this project soon! Cheers and thanks.
Good to hear John,
Don’t worry we all start slow. Yesterday I only worked on a saw and cut some slabs. It’ll be a couple of days before I have all the lumber and hopefully my ideas, ready to go.
Got a napkin ready?
John
Hurry up, Johnny…by now the ice must be melting…!!
I have a question about the “corrugated panels”? Are they ferrous or non ferrous ? I would like to know because I don’t know and if I missed where it was stated then I need to be punished severely!
NON FERROUS… Aluminum, 1000 series, annealed. Mill grade.
Comes with Taylor Tin’s lifetime rust thru warranty. Will never rust, Ever.
Hehe
Thank you Mr.Taylor!

Will never rust, and yet that’s what so many people are trying to do…

Well, I was going to use that fancy reactive Iron Paint from Modern Masters because there was some at work I could beg - but someone beat me to it and it’s gone. So I went looking to buy some and it’s discontinued - Bummer.
3 WEEKENDS DOWN
2 MORE to GO
15 Short DAYS to FINNISH
OK Guys, we’ve had three weekends to work, and only 15 days to “get er done”. Most are moving forward well, a couple are lagging behind ( me included ), and as always Vic was the first across the finish line, but it was the smallest also. I think that Challenge town will look really good on Feb 16th. Now would be the time to start sweating, if, like me, things aren’t coming together so well.
Yea, I am contemplating a redesign of the pump house and equipment shead to make construction easier on those parts of my build. I always end up not adding all of the details I want to, but I have had something to present at the end of the other builds. I hope I do at the end of this build too.
(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-undecided.gif)Yep I’m way behind, my vision doesn’t fit a manageable space. My woodworking workshop is on the back deck. I got blown inside yesterday by wicked fierce winds and rain. Once the chill burns off, I’ll see if all the wood I had cut is still around…
Yesterday none of my super glues would stick to anything besides my finger…(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-yell.gif)
I may go with module designs that can be re-arranged for installation, but that change should have been implemented by now… oh well. I’m focusing on the kiddie ride and then I’ll try to make sense of it.
John
Yea, I had an issue with my glue not setting up neither. It must have been the phase of the moon, or Mars in the wrong quadrant or something
