Large Scale Central

Mik's Build Challenge 2015

Dave, and everyone, I haven’t had much time for railroad work over the past few months, but the last couple of weeks I’ve been working on a boxcar string complete with a diesel locomotive, which I’ll post pictures of in modelling when I can, and I decided to check in on Large Scale Central…and I see that there is a challenge this year. Has it been a year? Really? Say it isn’t true.

Anyway, if you all will let me join in after these months of railroad inactivity, I’d like to give it a shot. I’ve no idea what I’ll build, but if I can get a 1:20.3 car from Dave, I’ll see what I can come up with.

About 17 1/2 hours to go [MST]. I guess the “ready” and the “set” should be shouted by now.

Remember : All things governing this challenge falls under “Rule #1” guide lines Especially under the whimsical theme. As anything goes.

Tic, Tock, Tic, Tock, …

I got my flatcar yesterday so I’m ready.

Having been quite ill for almost a month naturally my thoughts have been limited - especially a far as RR fora has been concerned.

I enjoyed last years challenge - even if I did manage to ‘rock the boat’ - however this year will see me as an observer. I will enjoy seeing what some of you guys have promised to build and look forward to the build logs.

So as we approach the Starting Gate I wish all Challenge builders good luck for this 2015 Mik’s Challenge.

Sorry to hear you won’t be joining us. I understand the health issue. I battled the flu for 2 weeks, nearly wiped out my napkin supply!

I lucked out and found a back pocket 16 fold model to use.

Thanks for the Good Wishes, I’ll need it. The only helpers I could find are the Stoned Mountain boys, good workers, but odd ideas; "To be stone(d) is better than steel!

Should be fun!

John

So how many started @ 1201 Am???

I guess that I really don’t need to say this… but GO !!!

Remember: RULE #1 governs all aspects.

So… what are you doing reading this… get off the computer, and go build!

I didn’t realize there was a rookie category and did’t see it in the rules.

If a rookie is someone who has never entered the MIK, or any other build challenge before, put me down for rookie status.

Thanks

Todd,

Your on the list. There are even two prizes for it. Bonus

All we are really missing is the guy from the NFL holding up the “John 3:16” sign…and cheerleaders. I really think Bob should work on getting us cheerleaders.

$ .02

Just be really careful what you ask for…

Packers? Where’s the cheese?

I do not wear my bikini in public.

So I will pass on being a cheerleader. I was in the marching band in high school anyway.

Please…no cheerleaders

Mik’s Build Challenge has really taken off this year.
Nice to see it getting bigger and better every year.

In that case; They are off! The Xs and Ys don’t add up!

As a rookie to this challenge I have to say I am truly impressed with the ingenuity and imagination that is presenting itself here. How so many different ideas ave sprung up from a single wooden flat car is pretty outstanding. Not to mention the creative use of spare parts.

There is a ton of talent and imagination here Devon. You should have been here for last years challenge where we all started from a door.

I know that the car is to be 16 scale feet long. Can someone tell me the width of the included lumber (in 1:24 scale) so I can make a “metal framework” to set upon it while awaiting arrival of our rail car?

Thanks
