Mik's Build Challenge 2015

@Todd, Total Width of the decking, and the end beams [ the widest parts ] is 4". You may make them narrower if you so desire. Wider is OK too.

Thanks

Starting our 2nd of 5 weekends on this years Miks Build Challenge. 10 days into the build and there are some pretty amazing creations in the works.

Everything from Trodding Moose, Flux Capacitors, Rocket Nozzles, Galloping Horses, to Speed Racers and tons in-between.

Vic appears to be finishing up the details of what is traditionally the first of several cars he whips out each year. Boomer is slicing and dicing perfectly good die-cast cars into something that will animate. Todd’s copper boiler looks like it might be put to other uses after the speed trials. Doc Toms hunting Baarrr. Terry is still looking for crystals and the warp engines were test fired. The amazing Moose will keep Eric busy this week. Todd B’s magical horse (how does it stay there?) seams to just work along. Aaron is stocking up on TNT (this can’t end well). Davon is hoping that his fortune is about to change. John P is hem-hawing and playing his cards close to his vest. And Desert John C can pull a neat little rabbit out of his hat. Travis is a little scarred that the revenuers will confiscate his moon shine powered thingie. And the Rooster has a what appears to be a portable radar dome thingie in the works. UKs Jonathan is building a bug zapper box thing. Shawn is cranking his build up. And Marks dreaming of Pacific paradise while fighting the flu.

Will someone help E.Paul A. get a pic posted so we can figure out what he’s up to?

The others? Well, we just don’t know for sure yet.

Incredible start guys.

Oh mine, well you would think that knowing what the challenge was to be (a long time ago), that I would have an Un-fair advantage wouldn’t you, well it would be… And thats my story and i’m sticking to it, even thou I don’t have a clue as to what I’ll come up with yet.

If I hem-haw long enough I’m thinking my idea will come to life on it’s own. Or maybe not. I might have to get to work this weekend!

Joe, I am trying to work out some details on mine. Taking an idea from a blurry vision in my brain to a finished part isn’t always easy for me.

I think I grabbed the wrong hat!

What I’m pulling out kinda looks like that Chupacabra cutie!

SuperStik didn’t, epoxy finally did…

I spent $7 for the engine cover and radiator … toy truck

Trying to imagineer the next step…

I think the chrome mud flaps…

Got railings from a bobber…

It’s all there, too bad I’m not!

John

John don’t forget the chrome lady

Our “base car” arrived today. It must have been an extremely arduous journey (probably came by steam power or narrow gauge) as all that was left was a piece of wood, a bunch of sticks, and some documentation. Still, the crew thinks they can still make a go of it.

NOTE TO ALL: Every one here knows what happened yesterday.

This years Challenge was going so great, I was so proud of what was being built, and the spirit of comradity amongst all.

Lets just set back and keep building for a few days, and see were this takes us, before making more decisions that changes the game plans.

Yes I’m bummed. I’ve deleted two posts before hitting the send button. I’m glad I did. Neither one of which I now would be proud to claim, thou heart felt at the time.

It’s about the “Build”. Using rule #1

Let’s go build something.

does anyone have the picture of Boomer’s creation? By the time I got to read the thread, it was gone.

It really stinks that Boomer decided to leave. His build was a winner and his log was very entertaining but in the end Guys, The Show Must Go On!

I’m really looking forward to seeing new updates on the logs so keep tinkering we are approaching the half way point already!

Keep up the good work and have FUN.

Interesting coincidence. Last night on Chasing Classic Cars they were at the Peterson Museum and they were doing the “cars of the stars” and flashed on the “Hannable 9.”

As Jack Lemmon would say, “Push the button Max!”

Well, it seems that the Forum has had a few notable posts in the last few days.

It was sad to see Boomer and Tom withdraw plus the issues that are causing Bob to review the place.

I have been quite ill for a few weeks and had no inclination to enter the Mik’s Challenge this year - it would have been my second attempt. The watchmans tower I built last year is still standing up the the vagaries of the weather.

I still have no intention to officially enter The Challenge but feeling more up to the mark I decided to make an effort to construct something which Forum readers can read - or ignore as their whim takes fancy - particularly as two entries are no longer here. (Hopefully Boomer may return).

I will create a thread to shew what I am attempting.

Moved here due to posting in the wrong thread!

Good to hear from you. I got a late start due to health issues but I finally got started the other day. Even if you don’t enter it’sa good time of year to build something!

I have missed something here… What happened to Boomer? If I may ask?..

Dave,

Question regarding the accounting of the build. I am going to use Kadees on this build, something I have not done before. I am purchasing a pair of 820s to use in the build, but am also purchasing the 829 gauge for height adjustment. Do we count the tool purchase as part of the build?

Good question Bob,

I know there is some consideration for paint, I bought two bottles of India Ink. I will use about three drops from each bottle. I was going to through the cost in as I am not going to hit the $30.00 but the clarification would be nice for when I give my tally.

I think you note the couplers but not the gauge, I’m not adding the pin nailer I got before the Challenge began, but then again I haven’t used it!

We are not sticklers and we don’t send in receipts either… just shoot for that range.

John

RULES CLARIFICATION: A few drops of ink? No body will hold it against you.

Let’s see $5 for a bottle containing 742 drops, 3-4 drops comes to $.02695418…

Yes the couplers on the car count, but the gauge NOT!

If you have to buy 4ft of brass rod, cause thats the shortest they have, and you use only 2", count the 2" cost. If you use all of it, then count all of it.

By all standards of Rule #1 … Let’s try not to make this to complex, or nit-picky, Mik started with free paint and glue, cause rarely did you use all of it on one build, and heaven knows he kept re-using everything.
