Hi Dave. Did you really mean we can paint them whatever color we want when we are building?
Finally figured out what I am building, just trying to figure out how to shrink it. Maybe build it in full then put it in a vice till its about 90 sq. ft. lol
Aaron, you don’t have a shrinky dink machine?
@Aaron and any one else.
It’s NOT 90 square feet. It is 90 scale feet total, wide + deep. You may have 45 scale feet wide and 45 scale feet deep, = 90. You could have 60 wide + 30 deep = 90. or even a false front of 85 scale feet wide and only 5 scale feet deep.
I hope that this clears up any questions on size. See, size does matter.
Rule #1 applies.
Phew! I was worried!!! I thought it was wide + deep then I read what Aaron posted and had a moment of panic…
As you were.
Thanks again Dave
Terry
Ahhhh, must have misread it, kinda takes the challenge out of it that way lol
David, I had one of those, but it shrunk to small, now I can’t find it haha
My son Cody(11 years old) came up with what we are going to build! Are we supposed to let you know?
We visited this last summer on our father son trip, we could not figure out what to build and then the light bulb went off in his head, man he is excited now, he wanted to start tonight but i said we have to wait for the package.

After a pestering by Dave and a following chickening out (claiming I’m too busy!) I think I’ll take a stab at this. I’m not sure how far I will get, but it should be fun.
Oh, NO! I’ve got to start sketching all over. I had a building that was 5 feet deep and 18 feet wide, but now I don’t know what I’ll do.
It was going to be sooooo cool, and I’ve never seen anything like it on ANY garden RR.
Craig ,good to see you here. This challenge is a lot of fun. I participated last year… Traivis (General1861)
I was down to 4 feet deep by 22.5 feet wide. Oh well. Three by 30 was just too weird, and a door might not have opened all the way!
I was going to ask a question on building size but that discussion answered it. I will hbe able to put a sidewalk in from of my building! I’m so happy!
I still haven’t figured out what I will build yet my RR could use all manner of structure but I have a few rough ideas in my mind.
What I will do when the door arrives is stare at it for a few days, ask it what it wants to be and hopefully it will tell me. I’m taking the “ZEN” approach.
The residents of Silver Onyx have been asking for my building. I can see why they no longer want it in the rented quarters across from the hotel on the main street.
I once knew a guy who was afraid he had one of those shrinky-dinks. Turned out the real reason he couldn’t see it anymore was that his belly had gone all roley-poley.
Dick, I for one would like to see that sooo coool idea of yours. We’re allowed to make something smaller than the limit, don’t forget! Under Dave’s rules, even an outhouse, or just an old door leaning against the back of a building would qualify…
Craig, Boomer, and a couple of other guys: I know how Dave can pester one, ha ha! He did it to me last year and earlier this year again. I’m grateful for it. And his enthusiasm seems to be working - look how many of us are participating this year!
We gotta give him top marks for enthusiasm!
Our build challenge this year will be a fine memorial to our dear friend Mik, God rest his soul.
I am signing up…this’ll be my first shot at anything like this and since I try for 1:24 wherever possible, I agree with a couple of the others that 1:22.5 would be best considering.
Thanks.
Got my door in the mail today, let the planning begin! Thanks Dave!
