MIK16 A Whale's Tale

Holy Moly!

All around there are actual builds going together and it seems like I’ve been fiddling with incidentals!

It’s a little trickier doing the finer cuts on the big 10", but I also have to double the smaller stuff to give it a chance to survive, under an eighth and it just disappears! Undeterred I gamely cut on until it got too hot and I got hungry… Not all was lost as I ate I opened the swings power source, an impulse buy years ago that was just too slow for my use… a $10 dollah screw driver, electric that is.

Dismayed, not really but the rocker switch wasn’t wired like a dpdt, rather the rocker closes a circuit on either side. After I found all the pieces, I re-assembled the driver with the guts hanging out so I can wire in a simple spst.

Yee gads Vic is done???

As I was bemoaning my retarded start my little people came out of the shadows and have vowed to properly motivate me …

Brains says he can wire that Ultimate Power Plant and Brawn told me to: Git out o’ the way!

Finally post its with numbers! I’ve got plans!

Years ago I carved those figures to go with my On3 10 stamp mill, carved in wax cast in Sterling Silver! The sledge is separate too.

Well the Hare just buzzed by with TP flappin’ in the breeze behind him! (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-surprised.gif)Me? Ploddin’ along like always.

John

Hey John, progress is progress regardless of speed. As long as your moving forward it will all work itself out in the end.

You would think so, but when I got to the lumber yard the crew wore evil smirks! I was up on the dock hands on hips and a big grin looking at my piles of scale cut wood. The longer I looked though I could see something amiss and it wasn’t a cutie! When cornered Brains fessed up; “You barked your orders with dimensions, but you didn’t specify Scale so we used 3/4!” Dang! He’s quick! I’ll get him next time!

Got 75% recut until I needed a samwich … yum it was good.

John

John you do realize Dave said it had to be done Feb 15th, the one in 2016???(http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-tongue-out.gif)

And your point is?

Oh thanks for the extra pressure!

What me worry?

John

It’s all their fault!

Brains is bent over with laughter all he can do is point! Brawn is a poser!

Love the casting work John. Silver?

yeah, On3 miners… the little people can be a help… unless they be jokers.

I left the jokers in my pocket and made more most excellent sawdust. Finished up on the 10" and then cut to length on my band saw. I don’t get nervous at all touching that moving blade. The top chords of the frames are beveled at 45*so I can do a simple over lap on top. That gets hidden by the long framing to support the tins. You can see the growing dust pile in the background under the big saw.

A double pile of treads, the top chords and the cross supports on the left, stringers in the middle and tin boards on the right.

Tomorrow we begin to build.

John

Thats a handsome pile of lumber

The boys were anxious for me to get going, they always claim my drawings belong in crayon, I’m not sure what they mean by that…

Following Eric’s lead this was assembled dry, TBIII frozen doesn’t thaw as a liquid, got chunky! Oh Lawdy another expense!

The only reason Brains grabbed those brads is because he had too much fun last night …

Only the frames are pinned together, but this should let my crew know what I expect of them. A cool breeze from the west rang the lunch bell!

As you can see a breeze has a direct effect on me!

I know what you are thinking…

I kinda like horizontal stripes!

More to follow…

John

Loved that episode off MASH. I would buy a suit like that if I could find one at a joke price. Picture the wordrobe dept. when they were told to sew up that suit.

Well the bit’s and pieces are starting to become a whole…

That one and the Wing-tips (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-laughing.gif)

Yeah it is time to begin assembling, tomorrow is a city day and then Wed. I begin make the Earth as this structure is scene dependent.

John

John . . . is that actual construction i see?

Too soon?

I would have waited at least another week.

Whoa there John. You might want to slow down on that progress. You keep it up and you’ll catch up with me and then I would have to go back to work.

I like the framing, but I think that particular piece of roofing tin is going to leak just a wee bit!!

Relax gents,

Tomorrow I have ta go to the big city! It will take most of the day.

Then Wed I’ve gotta make some Earth because this is more of a scene than an edifice. Gonna take a long walk way to make 400Sq.’!

Dan there is nothing wrong with that lightening catcher. Here in the desert we get most of our rain in late summer. We’d happily dance in it if there weren’t thunder storms bringing it in, so what’s a little character?

I’m selling Shade, in 1906 there isn’t air conditioning, the mine played out and the railroad lost the mail contract when the mine’s post office closed. In desperation we are pioneering the Nevada Northern’s operating plan of a hands on tourist pike. Part of the experience has been living in tents and digging gems deep in creaking shafts and going through low grade banks. Their kids got bored way quick so other attractions have been tried.

Oh the cave is good for a 70 degree cooling and the fossil is mighty interesting, but the kids need the action of a swing…

So don’t worry you have plenty of time, crack another and put your feet up!

John

Sounds like good advice, John. Believe I’ll do just that this evening.

Expense Report:

  1. Tubing, brass, amount used; less than half. Cost: $1.05

  2. Finial, plastic, cost $3.98

  3. Glue TBIII amount to be used, less than 1/4. Cost $2.00

Total so far: $7.03

That is all.

John
