Yea, that's for you old folks........;)
OK then, if'n it's fer us old folks, he needs to add a railing :)
Actually he needs to make a ramp then.

Nice work Bob. Looks like the weather has been a little better up by you then down this way. I think we are on something like 7+ days where we had some sort of rain/drizzle. Ugh

Seriously people… A mini-skilift would be nice… just sit down and enjoy the view as you rise up over the track…

Maybe even a stewardess servicng beverages and a snack… (pineapple upsidedown cupcakes would be nice…)

Hey I’m not that old; I don’t need a ramp YET. But I do find crossing my step-over raised roadbed to stairs going down a little dicey without a railing

Well, if we’re going to do all that, we might as well make our railroads “ride-on.” :stuck_out_tongue:

I knew there was a good reason for keeping mine on the ground!

Ya Steve, good idea let’s do “RIDE ON”. I like it.

I like them but they are out of my budget – and skill. The Mesa Verde Western is about 15 miles from us. They are on 40 acres!

Son, now, you know that's why they made engine lift stands.... :)

After staring at a bunch of aluminum shapes I have in the shop, a quick trip to Lowes provided me with a solution for attaching the girders, involving aluminum angle and bolts.

This keeps the girders at a reasonable spacing.

and with some of the black pvc that’s to be the girder sides, it doesnt look too bad

hmmm, interesting design, Bob… curious as to how it will play out…

Its not for major support, its just for tying the side girders to the main structure. It will have some screening, or perforated plastic as decking (whatever I can find thats 1) cheap, and 2) can support ballast.). I’m thinking those perforated gutter covers should work fine.

Basically, I’m building a trough that can support some light ballast, so I dont have to build 21 feet of bridge ties.

Some fill between the pier supports, up to grade. This is about a half dozen wheelbarrow loads. Maybe 30 more to go!

Man, that’s gonna be one great photographed area, when you finish it…

Your making great progress. I have about 30 wheelbarrow loads for a new siding and it’s been waiting fir a month!

Bob,

That trestle is spectacular! Very nice!

You know you could plank over the ties and that would look good too? wooden stringers between about every 5 to 7 ties or so extending outwards to accommodate the side walkways and railings and planking between the rails.

Anyway your ballast retention looks like it’ll work great. Looking forward to seeing the completed work.

That’s the plan, Andy. This trestle is one of the first things you see across the yard when you come into the back yard. We want it to be a really nice focal point.

Richard: Yea, I’ve thought of that, too. That’s plan B if this bit of supporting magic doesnt work.

Looks good Bob, great work!! Regal

Looking good Bob, are you going to put spacers in to hold the top edge of the girders in place ?
