Locomotive Work Cradle

Ummm I’m not so convinced that styrene can’t be laser cut as I’ve got custom cuts done by Alan on the Gal Line.

Solid Styrene 1/16" Smokes a lot when cut, but can be cut. Keep it thin.

Ya lost me…

Yep, the thread is going to hell… oh well, best intentions

So putting Woody in a cradle is akin to putting him in a hand-basket?

Why?

Many of us would like to simplify the task of painting figures, and if a cradle would help…

Yup, now the thread has left the rails…

Guess I’ll just build one of my own. Off of Greg’s 1st pics. Simple, easy and done!

Jason

Sure, that way you can incorporate the features you want, and spec it out to fit your individual needs.

Duplicate post.

I think you mentioned that you have the facilities to laser cut?? This one is mostly for HO scale… wonder if it is patented? (https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)

OK, I’ve decided that this may be worthwhile.

Greg, prepare all of the CAD files in a .dxf format and I can cut them for you in either wood or acrylic. I estimate about 12 hours (maybe more) including laser and drive time. My billing rate as a consultant/specialist/laborer is $100/hr (a bargin as the competition charges 3 times this), so let’s say $1,200 plus about $50-$100 in parts.

I look forward to receiving the CAD files.

As in my post you quoted, “I think you mentioned that you have the facilities to laser cut??”

So why the smart ass comeback? We are talking about making stuff, not making money, and you were the one not liking the simple cradle.

Your confrontive attitude is something you are proud of?

Like I said this thread has gone to hell…

Not being a smart ass. You said you were going to have it done anyway so why shouldn’t I make the money? I’m an entreprenuer and not against making a buck.

As I said, that is not the way I would do it so I wouldn’t even make one for myself. But if you want one…, fine. You think someone is going to design and cut it for you for free?

I don’t know why this keeps double posting on me.

Greg,

IF you are still interested in making a cradle similar to the one in your photo from Walthers, contact me offline. I do drawings all the time for folks on this site and NEVER charged a dime. I just enjoy the challenge. I have many 1000’s of dollars wrapped up in the design AND drawings for the 1/8th scale Baldwin electrics (I have rescaled these for folks who wanted to build these unique engines in 1/29th. Never a dime charged. Same for the Arrowhead Water Car. I have made drawings for Dave Taylor’s octagonal water tank roof for a friend of his in 2.5 inch scale NG home layout. With my experience in manufacturing, I’m sure we could find the people to cut whatever material you decide on using. It’s not “rocket science”. I know Todd commented about the CAD files being in DXF format. Not a big deal…MasterCam can convert my drawings from MasterCam format to DXF, IGES or any other universal format that you can take the CAD files to anyone to cut for you. Let me know offline. You have my email :). The biggest issue is probably patent rights for the existing cradle.

Rooster props his feet up on the box while designing a cradle for Greg.

Guys (Todd and Greg), why do you 2 always end up antagonizing each other? You 2 must enjoy the conflict, because you conflict so often. But now Bob is watching, so I think its time we all abandon this thread. BEFORE we suffer the wrath of an angered Bob.

I’m still waiting for Dan to tell me where to send a check for $55 for a cradle. . . I did get an email but no details and no address.

Well, you can always send a check to me! (Yeah, you won’t get a product of any sort, but you will get the satisfaction of …uh…well…hmmm…there MUST be something! Hey! I know - I’ll be Delighted to get a check!)

Shipping is extra

Dan emailed me and is getting a shipping quote. I’ll let you know the procedure when I hear from him.

OK.

First problem is that there’s something wrong with Dan’s email. His messages come From: Dana Patterson but when you hit “reply” it produces To: [email protected], and that bounces as he doesn’t have a yahoo account. So make sure you check you are sending to the right account.

[I have no idea what is going on - I assume the visible header is not the actual info, but how does his email do it?]

Anyway, here’s his latest: The cost of the carton and shipping is $45.00 making the total $100.00. So email him to see if he will take an order, then Paypal $100 to [email protected].

Edit: I figured out how to view the message headers in AOL, and here it is:

YOu can see the Reply-To is a problem.
