NINE DAYS! (At least the way I figger…I don’t count today, and I don’t count the wake up) Man…I need to get some stuff done!!!
The concentration is now on the KVRwy. We have had a great month playing on other railroads and the time is here to get things ready on the homefront. The railroad is in pretty good shape. We have a couple of new sidings that the current rains (been a long dry summer) are settling in the ballast. That’s good! Cooler temps and high winds are bringing the leaves down, but that is expected and why the event is in November and not late October. Leaf gathering is a daily event and by the next day it looks like you done nothing. All is well, looking forward to everyone having a good time.
Sorry we can attend , maybe next year .
New batteries just came for new loco:D
Funny…new Batteries just came for Old Loco…
A week and a day and it all begins. I’ve got help, Denny and Karen coming Sunday for test runs and I’ve got Andy coming to set up the live steam track, next Wednesday. Till then, my biggest objective is to keep leaves picked up.
WARNING!
I am definately looking forward to showing up! I have to drive a whopping 86 miles each way. So Saturday will most likely be the day for me. I am a member of GGRRC and have had the pleasure of meeting Ric twice. Hey, this is my first posting on this site! I like it allot…
Cheers:D
Welcome to LSC, John. I’m sorry I won’t be at Ric’s, to make your acquaintence.
Welcome, John. You’ll be in good hands with Ric…but I’d watch out for Andy… I’m another that won’t be able to make it there…but maybe you will find encouragement to make it to Marty’s Thingy next year in Nebraska. I’ve been attending that one. They only let me out of my cage once a year…
John Bible said:Glad you are going to be able to make it Saturday. You'll be amongst the operators and participating not just watching. Its rain or shine, so watch the forecast for what clothes you need.

Speaakin of which Ric…whats the LOCAL opinion of what the weather’s gonna be next weekend???
Bart Salmons said:Most likely "Fall Like", bring many layers from shorts to rain gear. Usually highs in 50's or 60's with sometime getting up to 80 and sometimes snow. We have our first freeze warning tonight, but high of 70 on Tuesday. I'll contact my meteorologist friend and try to get a long range. Stay tuned.

For weather anywhere, just Google the town + state + “weather”.
Barbara and I are working as volunteers for the Western Railway Museum’s Pumpkin Patch trains at Rio Vista Junction on Sunday. Googling “Fairfield CA weather” produces the current weather plus a 4 day forecast:
50°F
Clear
Wind: W at 6 mph
Humidity: 92%
Sat
71°F | 49°F
Sun
76°F | 50°F
Mon
74°F | 50°F
Tue
72°F | 50°F
Doing the same for Carlyle, IL produces:
57°F
Cloudy
Wind: NW at 14 mph
Humidity: 63%
Sat
59°F | 37°F
Sun
58°F | 35°F
Mon
64°F | 41°F
Tue
67°F | 46°F
Copying and pasting the Google output strips the graphics, but we have found this information to be very accurate as well as helpful in travel and clothing planning. There is also a button to get longer range forecasts.
Happy RRing (Especially at the KVRwy’s Fall Ops!),

Yeah but I can get as many different forecasts as I have sources for my local area…was more interested in what Ric’s knees have to say…hehehehehehhe
I’ll bring my Carhart’s and boots along…just in case…
The more heavy clothing you pack, the better chance we have for high in th 80’s.
Then I’d suggest Bart and Ken bring parkas and snowshoes.
Did I tell you the marina broker is a retired Air Force meteorologist? This what he said -
As to the forecast. Right now it looks to be generally dry for the next week, although we are starting to get another pattern change which makes me wonder if the current prog series are correct for next weekend. Given that, a week is a bit too long for me to go against them at this point. I would expect normal temperaturs (40/60), scatterd clouds and a wind of about 10 knots from the WNW for next Sunday night. I will check again Tuesday and make sure this is on track.
I’d bring layers. I have gone from sweat shirt, to shirt to t shirt in 4 hours this morning. Will probably reverse the process before the day is over. 55 degrees and bright sunshine, right now.

Yea, that’s about the same here. This time of year it can go from 70 to 40 in a couple of hours. And vice versa…I’ll be prepared (not forgetting how it was at Fred’s this year… )
It is bound to be weather fit for “RUMSKIs’” and J.W.Dundee Honey Brown.
Barty will show up with a thong and sunglasses......
