The Kaskaskia Valley Railway will hold its 6th Annual Fall Operating Session on the first weekend of November. That is November 3 and 4, 2007. We use RailOps software for the control of car movement and radios for dispatching. It is a weekend ops session with both days starting around noon and going until nobody is running trains anymore. Our goal is to run 18 trains to a schedule. Sometimes we succeed and sometimes some of the trains have to be annulled or extras have to be added. It is not really as regulated as it may sound, but there is lots of food and its a lot of fun. We also have a live steam track set up. If you can make it to 50 miles east of St. Louis, Missouri, you are certainly welcome to join us. There are usually about 35 to 40 people for the weekend. For more information contact me at [email protected].
OK…who’s going to Ric’s? The Rail Gods may smile upon me and make a weekend “Out West” a viable option, Specially since its just gas and a room, andcan ya reccomend a good close motel? Prefferably one everyone ellse is staying at?
We have a Microtel, Super 8 and other locally owned. Most of the people are local to the area (within a couple of hours) and go home for the night. The Canadians have stayed at the Microtel and been comfortable. Others may chime in.
Hmmmmmmmmmmm…seriously thinkin about it…
Even better Ken…what route would bring you westerly? Its about 7 hours from me to you and 7 hours from me to Ric…
Bart you are Interstate 64 all the way and a right turn, then 19 miles.
Ken you are Interstate 70 all the way and a left turn, then 19 miles.
We kinda sit right between them 50 miles east of St. Louis.
I’m honored you guys would consider coming.
I wish I could drive there too, but the budget, or lack of one; won’t allow it…have fun guys…Ric is the best of hosts, along with his partner Jan, and will make all your efforts to get there worth while.
Yea, That’s what I was thinkin…I-70 or I-64…maybe catch up with Bart and and stick him in the trunk and bring him with me…

Y...maybe catch up with Bart and and stick him in the trunk ....;)
Geeeees…I wish I could get down to I70, or thereabouts, and join in the fun. Just picture it…Bart, Fred, and Ken…in a van, after a stop along the way for Chilie and bheer; iced tea for Ken…arriving at Ric’s with a few cases of J.W.Dundee and Sam Adams Octoberfest bheer.
The doors of the van burst open with methane fumes, and five bystanders are mowed over with the race for the three holer…
Then......with three talented and trained operations experts, after finding relief; set out to show Ric how not to run his empire.!!!!

Sounds like a visit from my Dad’s family out of the hills of the Ozarks. Shoes were always optional and a new ax handle was purchased for a good time on Friday night at the local establishment. Kids ate last week, so we can spend the whole paycheck on beer and white lightning. It was all locally made, so you know it was good. None of the flatlander stuff.
On a serious note, the “corn squeezins” are just coming out of the fields, so local products will not be ready for consumption. I will be able to check over by the Air Force Base for some serious brew, so not to worry. This is NASCAR country, so the sponsor’s brewery products are very popular in htis area. Besides Budweiser owns its own railroad in St. Louis and that is one of the most interesting rail fan watching areas around at Manufacturer’s Railway. With a little luck, Jim Agnew will bring his Manufacturer’s Railway S-4 and cars to the event. They were a big hit at Marty’s. All and all, ya’ll come and we’ll provide whatcha need. Coffee, Iced Tea and Ski are always brewing on the KVRwy.

Just make sure that no one is standing around with an open flame or lit stogie when that door opens or it’s Hindenburg all over again!
Well it was Ken’s Carton O Winstons that got us in trouble at the Border in 2003…man has it been that long???
Here all this time I thought it was your case of Honey Brown…
No border to worry about this time…
