Wow!!! That is fantastic. And in G gauge too. I’ve always been interested in these super unique locos and it’s great to see someone attempting to model one in 1:29 scale. Great job so far. Maybe for your next “odd ball” loco project you might think about building either of the one of a kind narrow gauge diesel locos (#3000 and #4700n) that the Army tested on the D&RGW narrow gauge during the 1950s. Neither were exceptionally successful, and neither lasted very long on the D&RGW. But just like the Krauss Maffei, they were both very unique and interesting pieces of railroad history. #3000:

This post is over a year old?

Heck, a year isn’t bad. My crossing shanty might get some detail this winter, then I’ll drag up the three year old build thread  I’ve also got that EBT tank thread waiting on Bart to finish lengthening the tank. That ones almost a year old

Not all of us have your work ethic Dave !

Baby!

David,
if you have been following this thread, Rob was contracted to make a one-off 1/29 scale ML4000 in nickel silver. As a sideline, he decided to make a copy to produce a limited run resin model for rail fans to complete. Rob is a full-time train driver and has other contractual projects to accomplish. Twelve months to progress to this stage is an astonishing accomplishment.

This is truly an amazing model. Full kudos to Rob for tackling such an 'obscure' prototype.

Hi all.
Firstly thanks to Jon for his help with the pictures again. Cheers Matt for the nice comments, I wont be doing any “other” types of loco’s as I only specialise in Diesel Hydraulics in varying scales and types, but especialy loco’s with Maybach engines inside.
It looks like the production or “Hood type” units may well get made next!
I don’t want folks to think that I’m a slacker, I know these things take time but let me just put you in the picture, I work long shifts as a train driver, 4 weeks on and 1 week off, in that time I have also built a fully working 5 inch gauge German V200 diesel with full interior, a D1000 Western Diesel in O scale, my viaduct in my garden for my 5 inch line which is 8’6" high and over 65 feet long, a set of raised vegetable beds for her indoors!! worked on my classic cars and bikes, done some painting and weathering on a friends N scale collection and done a large tree clearing project on my land. I’m not having a whine, its just that I only have so much time and also the job’s have to run at a pace that the customers can afford, Mr ML4000 doesn’t have much cash so it runs slowly, now he is up to date I have made a big push and its virtually finished, with only some tiny parts and the truck sideframes to fabricate. I would hate to think that folks thought I sat around all day doing squat!!!
I have some shots of those other models and my line if anyone is interested?
Cheers
Rob

No Rob, I don’t think we thought that at all. I, on the other hand, do sit around all day and do squat

I'd like to see them. Ralph

Rob,
By no means do I think your a slacker as your work is incredible and yes Tim I did read it from the beginning.
I was just being my normal sarcastic self and it gave me a chance to pick on Jon a little.

I too would like to see your other models and the Viaduct as well!

Rob sent me some pics of his other projects. He will comment / describe them in a later post. This stuff is WAY COOL  [url=lsc.cvsry.com/RobFern/023_finished_and_HO.jpg]

Good Lord! That’s bangin’!

David,
Does Rob still plan to sell some castings of it for others? Buddy of mine may be interested.

Hi Guy’s.
Thanks again to the ever helpfull Jon for posting up the pictures.
I love my line but I’m so frustarated at not getting it done yet. We have had three very wet summers in a row, so work has all but stopped.
The tunnel you can see is 6ft high, 6ft wide and 27ft long, built out of blocks and has 26 concrete railway sleepers as a roof. The sand coloured loco is an O scale “western” class Hydraulic as she would have looked in about 1964. The large V200 is a German Hydraulic in 5 inch scale, it is a kit which was designed and made by me for another firm, complete with all internal details, you can see a HO version tucked under her for size comparison.
As for the ML4000, I am only about 2 weeks away from taking her up to be molded so she should be available as a kit very soon. It would be good to know how many folks may be interested, so that I can order the right amount of castings. Please get in touch if you need any more info.
Thanks again folks for the help and nice words.
Cheers
Rob

I sent the info to my friend, any idea of what prices of a kit would be. What will be included with the kit?

Hi there.
The kit will include the one piece cast body, what you see in the pictures of the patern is what you get. It also will include a cab interior, cast metal body details like multiple working sockets, horns, lifting hooks and eyes, side steps, cast metal truck side frame details, and etched radiator fan grills. there won’t be any truck internals, motors, wheels or gears as everyone seems to want to do that their own way. There are several options available for that, including an LGB 0-6-0 chassis that is almost spot on! I also want to be able to include transfers, but that depends on the suppliers!
I only have a very rough idea on cost at the moment which is between £300 and £400 depending on material costs and the number of orders recieved.
It is designed so that it will only need things like windows, handrails and painting to complete the body, and basic motorisation and construction of the trucks to complete a highly detailed and accurate model.
Hope that helps guy’s?
Cheers
Rob

[Thanks Rob, I sent the info to him.

jerry

Rob, i might be interested in 2 of these you can contact me Thank you.
Thanks
Nick
