I'm so done with winter

Was a hot tub enclosure (above ground tub put in there)… going to fill and make another deck on top… too warm for a hot tub most of the time… better vantage point to watch trains and golfers…

84 Degrees F today. When it snows down here, it stays in the mountains where it belongs!

It’s my time of year to work on the railroad! All the ties are painted and 7/8s of the rail is stained. 4 1/2 bridges to go before I can wear my engineer’s cap.

I hate the ultra hot as well. Not sure which is better. Snow for four months or sweltering heat for that long. I can’t work in either. I would probably take my snow. I can always put on cloths to get warm and work in the shop. I can only take so many off before the neighbors start turning a hose on me.

Well its not Zactly hot here but warm enough! the ice and snow are melting and about half my line is cleared.

I ran a train as the sun set…these are not the best photos but you get the idea of today’s fun!

I actually love the bottom photo. Looks damn real for a frosty cold day will all the steam.

We finally get a few warm days and…yesterday it rained. Today I get home after dark. Tomorrow it gets cold again.

I so need the ECLSTS, to recharge my Butt Modeling batteries.

Looks like we’re done with the rain for the winter, now it’s time to battle the weeds

  1. Forrest, go to the advanced editing mode if you are not already there.
  1. press the symbol “<>” that is at the far right, just to the left ot the smiley
  1. you can see all the formatting, where the quote is, etc.
  1. you can edit to your heart’s content, as evidenced below:

Gee, I am glad not to live in Tornado Country (for the most part they are really rare around here…Knock on Wood!)

Although after a nice spring like day yesterday it is snowing like crazy just now! lows in the single digits forecast for the weekend!

edit: an hour later and the sun is out everything is snowy!

I’m not sure which I prefer since over the last three decades there have been 4 times I’ve fallen in snow and broken wrists or elbows, including December just passed. Have final follow up appointment today.

My physical health is now a mess on top of existing autism and some times there’s nothing I can do about losing my balance on solid and dry ground.

As part of that with some neurological happenings cold is downright painful, and it doesn’t snow at 76F.

But, dang, trains look good in snow. At least to me.

For us in my burg, tornado sirens ran only a couple minutes Monday night and were done by the time I’d rounded up both cats after I was awaken somewhere around 10pm by the sirens. Think about tornadoes is they are sadistic SOBs who can drop right on you out of nowhere. Was born in southwest desert earthquake country but I grew up in hurricane country and they are comparatively polite asking a week to several days in advance, “Do you mind if I come try to kill you Thursday?”

A personal tornado story: one time when my now ex Kathy was in hospital for either joint replacement surgery or complications from a surgery there were severe storms in the forecast and obviously coming together out the window. And before too long there was this little round rotating descent from the clouds and the it went back up. If the clouds were a gym floor full of wedding cakes it would have been about Oreo cookie size in proportion. We just kind of looked at each other, “That was interesting.” said one of us. I then went to nurse’s station and said, “If there isn’t a tornado warning already there will be in a couple minutes.”

They all looked at me like I was from Neptune or something.

Well whaddaya know, less than 5 minutes later they were going nuts getting patients moved because of a tornado warning.

I told ya so. Listen to me next time, I’m not stupid.

(http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-laughing.gif)And thanks, Greg.

Today I cam home and it was severe clear and 60. The all day rain they forecasted never happened. So I went and walked around my yard, and railroad making a mental list of what I need to do when spring really arrives. I also cleaned up a bit of stuff on the porch and organized my ballast tools, so I can begin ballasting when the weather actually does cooperate.

Tomorrow I will have to wear my winter coat, or my parka, and there is snow in the forecast.

As for tornadoes, they don’t usually happen around here. But one went through my neighborhood about 15 years ago. It took out a tree in my one neighbor’s front yard, and a tree in my other neighbor’s backyard. If I were to draw a line between the 2 tress, the line would pass over the center of my house. (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-surprised.gif)The darn thing must have skipped, because there was no damage to my house. 84 lumber on the other hand, lost half of their lumber storage building. While this was happening, I was driving home on the road past 84 lumber, through horizontal rain, with visibility of 10 to 15 feet. So the tornado either passed in front of my truck, or behind my truck, and jumped over my house. Yes, I thanked God heartily that night.

As predicated, I woke up to a layer of snow on the grass and vehicles. The road looks reasonably clear. Winter is back for the next several days, according to the weather guessers.

snowing here but im ok with snow. Much better the dealing with bugs. Maybe a big nor easter tuesday with lots of snow.

Snow ? As we usually are faced with SNOW, up here in “The Frozen North”, surprisingly, we are getting very, very little just now. After several weeks of ice, rain, and freezing rain; this morning we are just getting a bare dusting, which amounts to almost nothing. We are supposed to get more and more sunshine during the next seven days, but high temperatures will be just a degree or two below freezing. As far as snow on the ground; we only have about a foot or so, and every day of sunshine, and a breeze, we loose more and more through evaporation. No, we won’t be out in the back yard for a while, but we are definitely seeing many hopeful signs of Spring. Time left still, to get maintenance done on the rolling stock, and plans finalized for Spring upgrades and repairs. The motivation is slowly escaping its Winter cocoon…and creeping into action of some sort. No complaints from this old fart, who is probably farther North than most on this forum !!

75 degrees and warming up… hmm… I have heard about snow… seen it on TV…

I prefer to see snow then bare trees and brown ground covers. Its prettier. So I was actually more cheerful seeing the snow today, then seeing the bare trees and ground. But I have cabin fever, and I want to get to playing outside. Yesterday was a teaser, one of many, and I am tired of being teased, I want the real spring to come.
