I'm so done with winter

I’ve had ito. I’m done. I’m looking for The Door Into Summer.

Winter? Yeah, a little rain, and almost too cold for short sleeves… brr, got down under 50 a couple of times…

Greg

Lol,

I have two patches of green grass. . .jealous? First time I have seen my lawn since November.

Hey Steve just be thankful that you’re not dealing with what Nolan is dealing with. A leaky roof and lots of interior water damage. That’s why we changed the meeting to our house this Saturday.

Devon, I have a couple of the same patches, but there’s still over 4’ of snow between the back driveway and the yard leading to the layout. At least you can now see one of the bridges, but not much more yet.

Hey Greg, it’s short sleeve weather up here also. It’s been in the upper 30’s and low 40’s with lots of sun. As long as the wind doesn’t kick up it’s nice out. But I’ll have to agree with Steve. I’m so done with this white stuff. LOL

Been so long since I’d read that I had to look up the plot!

And now I wonder what the topic title would mean if rephrased as,

I’m done with winter, so …

We were out running trains in (record) 82 degree weather Sunday and I tilled up half of my garden. This morning there’s frost on my car.

be happy, that you got changing weather. keeps body and mind active.

i live at 21° south, just on the verge between tropics and subtropics.

warm and dry summers plus hot and bone-dry winters. that boils body and brain. after breakfast one is quite ready for siesta…

warm = 65 to 100° F

hot = 30 to 110° F

Here in Western NY, winter is about 70% over…

we are in the middle of the 4th of 5 months of winter.

(Winter is the entire months of November, December, January, February, and March.)

I love it though! wouldn’t have it any other way…

you couldn’t pay me to live south of Virginia…I cant stand the heat, for me, 80F (27C) is too warm, and 90F (32C) is unbearable…

fortunately around here most summers we have zero to seven days that require AC, so that’s a good thing…

Spring, Summer and Autumn are very nice here…Winter can be too long…especially in February and March when it’s just dragging on…

but overall, I will take 5 months of winter over Florida or Arizona any day…

Scot

Scot,

Please do not come to live in Florida where I can run my railroad almost 365 days a year! (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)

*The only snow I ever see is when the cable TV goes out!

Mr. Steve I’m with you and we can both move to a warmer place so why are we still here?? Oh, I know a ‘wife’ and no I did get mine with my sea bag either! I would be in the Desert With an outdoor layout and covered town sites. And in the summer you do NOT go out in the noonday sun!

Paul

A bit of Heinlein history… Robert was watching his cat going from window to window, looking out onto a snow-filled scene. His wife said, “He’s just looking for a door into summer.” At that moment, the writer’s muse struck, and The Door Into Summer was written in one sitting.

In Ottawa, Ontario, Canada; we would have had trouble opening that door, due to the recent snow storm.

The positive note, is that Spring is on its way, but just taking its own sweet time, as usual. Cabin Fever is the main problem of late, easily cured by doing some maintenance on the fleet of rolling stock, in preparation for the coming Summer operations.

I’ll vote for the great life of having Four great seasons; each contributing to a great life of fresh air, new thoughts, and healthy living. It never gets boring around here, and we don’t need to travel past our city to witness a great World at our door step…thank you. We always know that sunshine is just around the corner, and we won’t get badly burned !!

Kind of like to send some of this rain and snow down your way, Greg… Temp. here was about the same but won’t have to worry about the R.R. if the Oroville Dam goes. That will be around 25 to 30 deep in Yuby city and around 10 ft deep here on our hill.

Calif. Needs some of this as seen on TV.

Can’t wait for the summer time to get here. Our Gov. says we are still in a drought. lol.

Its supposed to get up to 45 F, today. Can iceout be that far away?

I wish I had a mind like Heinlein’s, love his stories.

I kinda like winter!

This will send shivers down your spine.

Too funny. Toward the end of the second video, they show the proto-type for the garden railroad “leaf blowers” except that they use a aircraft turbine engine to supply the wind to blow away the snow.

They use that to melt the ice around the switches. Mostly in the yard areas.

I have to wonder, with the huge plow-wave going well up above the cab, how the heck does the engineer see the block signals? He could very easily run a red aspect and not even know it.
