Next, we can look forward to MUD SEASON.
Steve, I already have that in my backyard. That is, on the days its not frozen. And I get to walk through that part of the yard to get to my ballast storage pile. It’s been a warm winter in Maryland. So far, I’ve not once had to scrape ice off my windshield in the morning. At least one record-breaking warm day. It’s been great!
Having said that, as an ex-Californian, I’ve very gradually come to like the different seasons. I like taking a break from the outdoor development, and be “forced” to spend my free time on indoor projects, like model making & electronics. Gives a nice rhythm to the year, at least for me.

Scot,
Please do not come to live in Florida where I can run my railroad almost 365 days a year! (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)
*The only snow I ever see is when the cable TV goes out!
who says we cant run 365 days a year. I would not trade it for anything. FL weather is boring…
…and I hate snow!(http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)
Still waiting for winter here in southern Ohio, so far it’s been a non event. Wasted my time prepping the snow blower, what we’ve had so far I handled with a broom. I have some material to move to the back of the lot and have been waiting for the ground to freeze solid so I won’t make trenches with the tractor but so far it hasn’t happened. That said I’m fully expecting a major snow storm in May !
We’re being told to expect the mother of all rainstorms today, for a non El Nino year, we’re at double our average rainfall. My yard is growing like mad and the weeds in the backyard are epic. Trouble is that when it rains it’s always on weekends and I can’t weed.
Killer weeds
Over 8 feet of snow so far this winter.
All things I enjoy are summer hobbies: operating trains, riding my motorcycle, and fishing.

Baloney. I’ve seen all four seasons at four different elevations all in one afternoon here. I’ve driven home from my cabin at 11,000 ft in a blizzard, to sunshine in the canyons, to a blinding rain storm in the foothills, to a spring/summer back home here.
Today it was supposed to be over 70 for a new record but it made it only to 68…too bad. No idea what happened to winter, but at least the mountains are pure white with snow, so I don’t really care.
I’m loving the cooler temps.
I would gladly trade 1 ft of snow for 110deg plus weather during the summer out here, in burnt Vegas.
Paul says, “8 feet of snow…” well, I guess that is the total “Snow fall” but in fact, there is about 2 feet on the ground, and snow drifts along the roads that can be as high as 5 feet, depending on how the snow ploughs have been maneuvered, and where in the Valley you happen to be.
Starting today, with a +10C prediction, and the highs for the week aiming at all above freezing temperatures; we should loose a lot of the snow pack, and start curing our “Cabin Fever”. I get out on the tractor almost every day, and only once, for a few hours, was I “Snowed in”. The tractor of course is a John Deere lawn tractor, without the mower deck. I even pulled a tailor load of empty bheer bottles over to the refund place the other day.
Planning for the 2017 operations have started on the IPP&W, with a crew call expected during March. The sand house crew has been busy while on lay-off, and figures in greatly on how many empty bheer bottles are produced ! Management has been slipping vitamin D tablets into the bheer, in order to keep the lads awake and alive, instead of forcing them into the cold, for sunlight.
A report from the “Fallen Tree Mine”, indicates that production will be starting early this year, and has two extra ore cars to add to the fleet, to handle the expected increases in production.
It may yet, be declared an “Early Spring”, but don’t bet your Winter underwear on it…!!

Winter is terrible here… 75 F yesterday, 77 F tomorrow…
It’s a rough winter… I hope it gets cold enough for at least 4 days straight, to kill the bugs…
Well the snow is starting to melt away because our temps are in the low 40’s with rain. It’s funny to see the 3 to 4 foot burms that were along the street in front of our house gone. Yet the 3’ burm between the back driveway and the back yard leading to the layout is still there. If this keeps up we might see the layout before March, but their still predicting more snow in a few weeks. We’ll just wait and see.

I’m down here in SoCal also. I won’t pull the weeds on the hillside until the rainy season is over. Don’t want to expose more soil to erosion.
We got more snow today in beautiful Deer Park.
Saturday we hosted our club’s monthly meeting/open house. From Friday evening until Saturday morning we got nearly 2 inches of rain, and then we got more rain during the meeting. So we didn’t get a lot of visitors, and I didn’t even try to run any trains. But we still had a good time. We got more rain last night and this morning.
Ill take a good snowstorm over rain any day.
Even in August?
Was in the 80’s yesterday. Cooler today, maybe 55. 44 now. Shoes? Na.
