John I am just worried about how I’m going to build it first. I most likely will not even put ice blocks out. small details like that no one can see from the area that they must stand and look at my trains and if I am running a ops session the guys arnt going to care. But if I were to I would cast them in resin.

Ken got the plains today. thanks a million. Man this is a big building. will have to spend a few days reading over everything and then start the build. this should be fun.
All I read was the list of materials, so you’ll be one up on me…
Ok here is a update.
I had to go to the eye DR. Saturday and yes I need glasses. seems that my arms have gotten shorter some how over the last 45 years.
WEll I now have my glasses and WOW. Its nice to be able to read something with out it being half way across the room from me to do it.
I can also see the ruler, very helpful. Made a list of lumber that I will need and will be off this week to get the wood.
I also got a pin nailer yeaterday way I was at the mall seeing the eye DR. So with luck I will be starting to build next weekend.
Good thing you got the glasses before the pin nailer - those little pins will shoot clean through a finger:) Glasses are a pain; I started wearing them full-time at about age 50 after trying to get by for several years with drug store reading glasses. I agree that it sure is nice to be able to see though
I think you are going to love the nailer. What are you using for an air supply? I use a portable tank that I charge with a compressor.
Jon its a electric one so I dont need a compressor to run it. The neighbor is not happy with the table saw as it is. Being in a appartment for half the year is not easy.
I have work out a deal with the neighbor in that I will do most all of my cutting why she is gone on sunday’s or other times. I told her I would check with her before I fire it up.
She seems to be ok with that. We will see once I get to cutting the lumber.
Geoff, just a suggestion, but get you one of those western houses they sell on evil bay, and ad a dock to it??? What you tink??? Regal
Jerry Hansen said:Jerry that takes the fun out of building it myself and its not the look I wonted. The plains I got from Ken will work great and I am looking forward to doing it myself. I think this is the only way I am going to get better at building stuff.

I picked up a Piko brewing plant and the side building off craigslist with a bunch of other weather beaten structures. I thought it would be cool to have a ice platform and somehow that idea transformed into a citrus plant, like anything else, its more of an impression of a structure than an exact replication. The loading docks and icing platform are coming, and thanks for the suggestions on making the ice blocks. This thing is a freaking monster, and we figure our ice dock is going to be three cars long. So I still do not know where it’s going to fit eventually on the railroad…

John, here is a better one.

This is the Ice Dock I am building to go with John’s Citrus Packing Plant. Got it all demensioned out to 1/2" scale and got my bill of materials that I need from Evergreen and Plastruct. 'Bout $ 300 but my local train store gives a 10% discount on my orders. Save on the shipping that way too.

That’s real pretty, but I think I’d come up with some other materials rather than spending $300 on structural shapes.
The only shapes will be stairs, siding and roof. All the other parts are cut to size and glue. It is going to be 40" long by 24" wide.
Geoff George said:Geoff, Keep us posted. Looks like another large coffee table build. But I'm not sure that term is appropriate now that you have a table saw ;) RalphJerry Hansen said:Jerry that takes the fun out of building it myself and its not the look I wonted. Cheap and easy way to make Ice Blocks: go to Wal-Mart in the Kids Craft section and get a bag of Crystal Faceted Beads in the ping bag = $ 1.97. Make a wood block or use whatever material you chose to the scale size you need. On the depth, make it double. Using the heavy duty aluminum foil, neatly fold it around the mold, leaving the top open. Pre-heat your oven to 400. fill your molds with the beads, place them on anoth sheet of foil on a baking pan…just incase you have an oops. It will take a good 45 minutes or so. Watch your project so you don’t “boil” the plastic. If need be, carefully add material if you need more thickness. Once the beads have melted completely, very carefully remove your filled molds and place them in cold water to cool. Once they are cooled, peel the foil and zaaam…Ice Blocks. I didn’t invent this but found a similar recipe for full size cubes. Check the picture out.

NEET Trick Mike, thanks for sharing.
What does the significant other think of this use of the oven, or do you have one in the shop?

It’s cool as I don’t make a mess and if I do, I clean up after myself…
Ralph Berg said:Will do Ralph. I think I am going to have to keep using the coffee table. It has more surface space then the table saw. :)
