Ice house build

Ok here is were I need some help.
After that build challenge I have desided I need a ice house for my reefers.
well after a few days on google I have not found any that I like or think I can build.
So if any of you know of a website were I can find a ice house picture I would be very thankful.

What I am looking for is a two story ice house. something with a upper cat walk so that they can just drop the ice in to the cars and not have to lift them up from the ground. I know I saw one like this some were but have not been able to track it back down.

thanks and yes once I get going I will post lots of pictures and NO Rooster its not done yet.

Hey Geoff,
I loaded some ice house plans (kinda fancy victorian) in the reference section awhile back did you see them?

That could be the ones I was thinking about. I will go see if I can find them. Thanks

I used them as the basis for Chandler’s Mercantile. Just eliminated the second story icing platform.

Thanks guys. I knew I could count on the members of LSC to help me find what I was looking for.
Ken that is the one I was looking for.
Now I have to get some stuff and get to work on it.
will keep everyone posted as I build it.

OK since I’ll prolly NEVER get around to it…I’ve had the idea for years to do an ICE house and Company (lettered stock) named: Berg’s Ice…get it?..well maybe Ralph does…anyways the idea is out there now, and if I decide to just sell it all, somebody else can bring it to life.

now back to your regularly scheduled programming

Can I color them with crayons if he decides to go that route?

How would you like to end up at KFC?

ok so here is what I am thinking and this could all change once I get the plans from Ken. The Building itself I was going to do in Styrene. If I can figure out all the .020 stuff I was going to get the clapboard siding and put in on the 1/4 styrene. This should give a a strong building. The loading area I was thinging I might do it out of styrene sticks as well. I am a bit worried if I use real wood that is may warp on me. Feed back on all this is welcome and encuraged as well. the good thing is there are not many if any windows I have to warry about. Now Ken got naming rights so taking what he sent in a e-mail here is what I have come up with. Brunt’s Blue Ice. Moto…“We can freeze hell over” Thanks.

BTW, that wasn’t my choice for the name… The plans call for a wooden structure and give the dimensions for all the pieces you would need. Mine was made from Spanish Cedar and has been outside for about 2 years now. The only warpage I’ve seen is with the clapbaoard siding on the tower which is basswood which I may change to a plastic veneer.

Here’s a link to the build log: http://www.largescalecentral.com/LSCForums/viewtopic.php?id=12022

Geoff, the painted styrene loading dock should hold up well. Even though my Miracle Chair company building rotted, the styrene dock survived. I made it from strips back in 2003, or so. A razor saw was used to add grain to the strips. Probably not really necessary.

I repainted it for use with the C.M. Oates company and glued the back stairs to the dock.

Be very careful with gluing the siding to styrene. It’s VERY easy to have the siding “melt” or deform. I’m assuming you have the styrene already, otherwise I’d sure recommend the 1/4" (6mm) Sintra. Cutting window openings CAN be done with a knife. 1/4" styrene is a bit tougher.

No Bruce I have not gotten the styrene yet. That is why I am asking about size ect. There is like tons of sizes shapes ect and my head is still spinning about what to get. The Sintra 6mm. Thanks will do that.

Ken I alread have a building named after Andy so I took some of what you said and added my own touch to it. Hope that is ok. It may still change or you may ask not to have your name on it once its done. will have to see.

thanks

Geoff,
The Sintra is a brand name of the product. You will need internal bracing (a crude wood frame) in order to support it though.

You shouldn’t need any internal bracing for the 1/4" (6mm) stuff. I didn’t use any in my last building. Of course it does have a floor and a roof that provide support.
