Yea, If I had a dollar for every time I told myself that. (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-undecided.gif)
But I am doing good. I was doing good. I am not doing so good. My latest fix just arrived from Australia. Its a Clyde ML2 in HO scale. I blame Dave for that. He forced me to go to a meeting of an HO club, and then he forced me to join and participate. How did he force me? He asked nicely.
Should there be a warning on the home page of LSC?
My wife just asked to whom am I texting just now, and I replied I’m just going to post something on LSC then I’ll go to bed.
She said “Youre addicted to LSC!”
…and I promptly argued…
- “I Can Quit LSC Whenever I Want” …
- “Compared To Others, I Don’t Have A Problem” …
- “I Deserve an Amtrak” …
- “No, I’m Not thinking about the next LSC post/ message/thread” …
- “Switching to HO Costs Too Much” …
- “Treatment Doesn’t Work”
- “I’ve seen profiles of guys who have been on LSC for decades and they look ok”…
- “I can limit myself to one thread…”
- “There are worse things to be addicted to… like for example, oh let’s say… cooking” (OMG, LSC has a cooking thread too?! Oh! Thank you very much @Devon_Sinsley )
Look, I’m a newb, but, should there be a warning on the home page of this website that says LSC may be just as habit forming as LSD and may lead to addiction.?
Hi my name is Bill and it’s been 8 hours since I replied to an old post…
It’s a science that few understand or are ready to tackle Bill however I commend you for the venture and in my heart I feel you deserve it !
I can envision it roundy round on your ceiling. Now get busy as you need to catch up to me!
Rooster, that’s a very very long train! Do you have long sweeping curves as well?
I haven’t even gotten my DSP&P steam train up and running, plus, I haven’t checked if Amtrak connects with Billings, Susanville or points between. But this Amtrak thing sounds addicting.
I’ve been able to keep my DSP&P addiction at bay for 20 years, getting a carriage here and there… maybe going to a convention… but now that we have a garden, we are consumed night and day thinking about it, buying garden edging for it, building structures for it, running water and electricity to it, and wanting more of it! It’s all consuming!
We even travelled half the country recently, by car, to Young and Sydney NSW to settle a “simple track craving”, as well as to catch up with others suffering the similar afflictions at our (ahem!) “local” garden railway club. We think we might now be addicted to DSP&P!
Soooooo…
How long have been doing Amtrak? I can see the highs. Are there any lows?
I’ve just looked up and answered some self-help questions related to personal risk factors for addiction to Amtrak…
-
Early age at when you first used trains
(no. phew!) -
Genetic predisposition to railways
( yes. Although I think we accept that predisposition to railways may pop up unexpectedly and skip a generation.) -
Environmental factors
(no. Amtrak not here… but both the Indian Pacific & The Ghan run through our town and keep an Amtrak-like-time-schedule) -
Personal history of train use
(yes. obviously) -
Personal history of Amtrak use
(yes. but only once, and only at the Izaak Walton Inn with the Empire Builder, but I didn’t inhale) -
Family history of recreational train use
(yes. father, great uncle)
[also guilty of taking my wife on the Durango Silverton, the Pitchi Richi, Indian Pacific and others… and she wants to go again! So if there’s an intervention I don’t think she’ll be staging it.] -
Social friends who use trains frequently
(yes. LCS and a few Aussie friends) -
Social friends addicted to Amtrak
(well, I do now!)
Other, than the fact we can’t readily get Amtrak here, I think my tight radiuses might make us resistant to Amtrak.
1. What are the risks of doing Amtrak over DSP&P (or with DSP&P)?
2. Is there such a thing as a casual or social Amtrak user?
I’m probably missing the most important question, but someone here might ask it…

Hi Dave,
Is that a Garret? If so English, South African, Australian version? What does it sound like?

Thanks Mick.
I’m a bit embarrassed with my spelling.
I’ve just learnt we had them here in SA.

BD, I would also like to suggest the:
LSC’s Best Rhetorical Question of the Year Award
… and to nominate Bill for these two (call them Part 1 and Part 2). I mean, my mind is numb trying to answer the “with clause” of Part 1, and the overall premise (especially if you carry the “risk” element over) of Part 2…
I forget, who’s on the LSC Rhetoric Committee?

Bill,

No risks just put SDP…F…PHR… with a numeric desigination like 30,40,45 and you will be fine. So suppose Amtrak took over Aussie land and you wanted to build it we can call it a SD45DSP! Then there is the DSP-Phr minus the steam generator and pusher units.
-
Yes there,their is both !
My morning issues are, uh, different from your flying monkeys… but best wishes on yours Rooster.
And Merry Christmas!
C
BD, i would like you to name Cliff as head of the Rhetoric Commitee.
