Me, I’m getting that feeling too. It’s slightly worrying that unless you can show a new ‘red box’ every week or so, you are set to lose all your on-site credibility. As I noted to one of the mods, who is also a good friend for many years and a poster here, the numbers of times that a few of us with a somewhat more robust sense of humour than is generally the norm - usually ex-military of some kind - have received ‘warnings’ or have had our posts permanently deleted, is worrisome. This, remember, is a completely new forum that depends on a carry-over of good-will from the previously destroyed GSM.
I’m taking my life in my tentacles on monday and going to an open day about four gallons of gas from where I live. At the first sign of trouble from the assembled foamers - including one of the gentleman I have been warned ‘has it in for me’ - well, we’ll see…
It seems to be that if you are foreign, well-travelledl, literate, can cobble together sensible sentences in recognisable English using punctuation that can be understood by most second-graders, and NOT a red-box foamer, that you have already got several black marks against you.
When I posted a somewhat tongue-in-cheek response to a post showing a refrigerator-full of snacks, and asked if they were kosher, there was only one response, from one friend who knows me and how my mind operates. Now that they have found out that I’m not only a furriner, have a lot of stuff that did not come out of a red box, well-travelled AND Jewish as well, it could get interesting.
Now, when they find out that I’m also black…

I am sorry that you all feel that GSC is run by uneducated and non travelled people. This does go to prove that you do not know anything about me and are making inaccurate judgements.
I am also sorry that you feel GSC is no fun - that is certainly not my intention.
I am struggling to understand though what the problem is with us having a forum (that is open to children) where we request that basic guidelines are followed? I find this rather strange that some would want children to be subject to bad language and distasteful items. Humourous or not. My sense of humour is extremely dirty to be honest but I would never post anything i found funny on there, it is simply not appropriate and I am responsible for anything a child may see on there.
I do not see that my request is unreasonable, at the end of the day the main factor in the fall of GSM was these kind of comflicts.
The forum at the end of the day is about G Scale Railways! yes we want jokes and humour but this can be kept to suitable for 13+. quite easily.
Comments about those who have not travelled amused me as it is a known fact that that most people from the UK are well travelled unlike the vast majority of people in the USA. I have travelled to many countries around the world and have found the most uneducated to be in the good old USA (those that have never left the country that is). Now is that funny or offensive or just factual???
as for opening red boxes, in this household we have not had one from over 18 months, we have mainly had USA trains and are using aritocraft track. Again facts are good.
Moving forward if you wish to be part of GSC then you are all more than welcome, we simply ask for respect and humour that is suitable for 13+ - not unreasonable is it?

I understand your sentiments but I think they could have been less confrontationally put.
Perhaps a dollop of editing will smooth things over before this escalates into another slanging match.
If I really wanted to associate with 13 year old children; I’d have at least 6 of my own. So, I guess I won’t join in the questionable “Fun” at whatever this new place is called.
The truth of the mater is that the so called “13+ Children” of today, usually have a better sense of humour, and thicker skins, than their parents, and the other supposed guardians of their lives.
At this point; I think I have to ask, why go over to these “Fun” places, and find yourselves put down…just stay here on LSC and enjoy the freedoms that Bob provides. Of course there is a point that some fools seem always to exceed; where personal insults and abuse get loose.
We, as supposed “Adults”, should be able to stay under that line, without too much trouble, with all the “Worldly Experience” that we all claim to have, and not give Bob a big job of monitoring our behavior.
Lisa; please feel welcome here at Large Scale Central, whenever you care for some adult association. We are a good bunch, and it seems that a few of the adults from the old GSM are finding a new home here where they can “Play” with their adult friends.

You won’t find me at GSCentral. There is a big difference between making a site suitable for children, and treating

No, not funny, offensive or factual…I would call it stereotyping actually. Granted, we know your travels to the US include going to NASCAR races, but not everyone in the US or here the South for that matter is identical to some at such events.
But then you will find that some of those same people are the hardest working folks you will find, and will give a total stranger the last dollar in their pocket if they feel that the stranger needs it more than they do.

I guess if everyone who is edumacated were to just pull up stakes, and not support that site, then only the really really edumacated people over there would be left to support the site! Raging Rudolph was entirely suited to that requirement, but it sounds like it depends who’s 13 year old we are talking about, by 13 I was totally fluent in Python and could recite most skits, especially the dirty ones, and the average 13 year old today is even more aware of alot of things there parents would freak over. I just wont bother beyond posting train only stuff from here on out, as the border of offense is way too nebulous.

Lisa welcome to Large Scale Central. I hope you come back more and enjoy this site as much as the rest of us do.
Now, and I hope with out starting anything I have a few questions.
- Do they still do the page 3 girl in the news papers there? Talk about something kids should not see.
- YOu should see what they play on BBC America. Talk about pushing it and not for kids and whats even more funny is I’m talking about the shows that are for kids and about kids.
- I have found it is easier for people in say the UK to travel about then it is for People in the USA. There are a large number of us that have traveled to say Mexico or Canada. there close you know. Just as it is easy for you to travel to France or Germany. So I guess its what side of the pond your on.
- Ones leavel so Schooling has nothing to do with how they treat people or it shouldn’t have.
5)I have found that and if I wrong please correct me. VERY few 13 year olds that post, read, or have much to do with these forums or for that matter trains. If there is a large number I just wont to know how do they pay for them?
Lisa my friend I respect what you have done with your site. Its not easy I know as I have my own website and small forum. How ever if your going to run a website its like a business you have to understand your customers and gear it to them. If you don’t then you don’t last long.
If you wish a site for 13 year olds then it might be a good ideal to list it on the home page. Something like “This site is for children.” then that way if a grown up gets band, deleted or what ever they have a ideal why.

i have been to the USA to watch nascar but not just for that and think that the hospitality i received there was out of this world and loved every person and friend i have met there.

when anyone joins GSC it does say you have to be 13+ so all adults who read the opening bit are aware of it. It is not just for children it is for anyone over 13 who is interested in G SCALE RAILWAYS, this being the key. the whole point is for this hobby. that both this site and GSC are there to talk about and encourage others to join
as far as i am concerned the matter is over. but if people on here want to have a go at me then please have the decency to do it via a PM on GSC and not on here. I have no issue what so ever with people communicating with me direct about any issue on GSC and on the site it does say that in a number of places. I want it to be an open friendly place for all G SCALE RAILWAY things. the site is far from perfect and i am willing to discuss anything that people are not happy with BUT in a nice way.
