Didn't he say that it all started the day Zach was born and he saw one from the hospital garage ?

I’m guessing that was about 9 years ago.

Thought he said he was born on the hospital garage roof while Rooster was photographing trains. Don’t matter as long as we know it was around 9 years.

The focus of this shot is not on the green ink but of the animal’s. Meet “Hollywood” and “Poor Jon” my favorite jackasses however I had to BARTER one off two off too the KMRR and still awaiting trade!~

I got a bit more done and getting towards the more intricate details ,especially on the front. I added grab iron’s, piddled a bit with the fuel cell and the air tanks(not installed yet) plus I finished the front and rear ladders. I shaved the front roof line back, cut and pushed the windshield forward, built up,filled and sanded a distinct center split on the windshield(what a bear). Then number boards were added and the front marker lights were installed and trimmed out. Still working on the headlight and deciding if I want ditch lights before I skin the nose.

Rooster, Beautiful work! Really a cut above, excellant job. Might I suggest that before you glue the grabirons in place you cut a spacer to slide between the body and each grabiron so they remain consistant. Looks like you put a rainy weekend to good use.

Wow Dave, I don’t know if I’m more impressed with your modelling ability, or the fact that you can do this, work, and have a 9 year old!

Lou, I have the weekends and limited time there as well, the boy's baseball team lost their 3 game yesterday. I can't sit down......very tweakish guy. Work does kick my butt through the week, this is where planning is done then executed on the weekend as time allows. ;)

Editing to state fear my retirement!

Looking great Rooster, coming along very nicely!

My birthday present sure is looking good… Nice work, Son…

Thats because his 9 year old takes care of him and does all his work. LOL

Rooster tell your son his doing an excellent job on that engine.

I put some time in after work in the evenings this week and got a nice start on the back half. I used the stanchions from the geep 9 however since they are going to be mounted straight up(instead of the sides) the metal tabs on the bottom won’t work as they will just break off as there is nothing for the stanchion to lean into. I decided to drill holes the size of the stanchion and this worked very well. Bent the brass railing from 3/32 stock but not sure if I like the bends on the ladder sides just yet. Made more grab iron’s up the back from the same size brass stock and mocked up the rear light. I need to add rear door glass, finish the marker lamps , add sanding hatches in the recess’s and a few other things then the top half of the back will be finished. (Note there are no rear lighted number boards on this model only numbers.) (Also note the railing and stanchions are not squared or leveled yet, only by eye.)

Hey David, would this photo help any?

This one is from starboard bow but has decent view of aft rails http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=313423&nseq=56 just don’t seem to be many photos of the butt end of these babies. Long time back I was modeling AMTK in N, might be able to find some photographs in the box and scan if there is relevant one.

Lookin good.
I read where one of the Canadian RR’s was modernizing their fleet of F-40’s.
Also some F-40’s were gutted of engines/traction motors and retro-fitted as cab controls.

Here’s a phto angle might help, from high on broadside http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/eLCbzhmFZxSq0dLK5mPxpQ or another way

Okay, how the $#!^ do I link to the just the url without taking their bandwidth and showing the image??? If I put nothing around the http:// et cetera the image shows. If I put and the end one around the http:// et cetera nothing shows, not even the url. I quit trying, what comes up, comesup, until someone clues me in on how better to do this.

…grinning…

Interestingly I saw CSX has an F40, where I work is just off the Old C&O mainline between the Huntington WV Shops and Russel Ky YArds…so I can literally railfan from my cubicle…I didn;t catch the Road Number and I’m not sure if its not a slug …need to reasearch that… Google is our Friend…
