I am very much looking forward to attending this show this year. I’ll need some help navigating! I’ve never even been to the state!

Be sure you attend the Drag n Brag on Friday night (at the Wyndham Garden hotel, in York). Highlight of the show!

Can you tell me a bit about that, Cliff (or others)? I just looked at the hotel and it says the block of rooms is sold out for the show. I guess I’ll have to look elsewhere.

John,

I’d call the hotel directly for a room, just in case the web site isn’t up to date. At least, that worked out for me once when I was in the same situation.

But if you stay at another hotel, just show up anyway for the D&B. Entry “fee” is a bag of chips or 6-pack or some other consumable.

Drag in something to brag about, and see ya there!

John;

As a stranger from Canada, I have never had any problem finding York PA on a road map. They are still available, by the way. Walmart has/had a rather good road map book at a reasonable price, last time I looked. Several years ago, a friend and I travelled from York to Cape Cod, right after the show, without any problems, using a road map from the Walmart book. Ken Brunt did offer some of the suggested routes to take…he might help if asked nicely.

Of course these days, it seems that everyone uses one of the electronic gadgets, but they can get you into trouble, if you aren’t well practised in their use.

Having a good navigator sitting next to you, who can read a map, does help very much.

If you take your time, and drive safely, you should get there. You should enjoy yourself meeting people in the Alcove, and at the main hotel where the greeting party, and the Drag & Brag are held. So do start your trip, allowing time to arrive early enough to take part, and try to get a room at the featured hotel…it is the one closest to the Fairgrounds. Remember; booking a room, and sharing with someone, cuts the room charge in half, for each of you.

I wish I could attend this last show in York, but my travelling days are over…

Have fun

Look forward to meeting you, John.

There are plenty of hotels around. The Fairgrounds are on the West side of town, the Wyndham Gardens are on the North side, and i know there are others close to that one.

There are a number of guys from MA that could tell you the routes they take.

I wish you could come, Fred. One last hurrah in York?

Cliff; I wish I could too…so many friends, so many memories…

Thanks, Lou! I’ve booked a hotel with a good cancellation policy. That way I can try to get a room at the Wyndham Gardens without worrying too much. I’ll be there by mid-day Thursday! =D

Bruce;

To many GPS users seem to end up on railroad tracks, or driving trucks under too low bridges or underpasses…where is the cartoon for them…?

As I suggested; those gismos are fine if you buy the correct one for your needs, but then you have to take the time to know their limitations.

You also have to know how to read a map, which few people seem to bother doing these days.

These things are just tools…you have to take the time to learn how to use them.

Fred (Good cartoon, BTW)

…or on the Atlantic City board walk…

Well…wherever they hold the show, it will be an opportunity for fellowship and good times.

Bruce, I was referring to where GPS devices have been known to take folks…like truck dirvers….

The states around here make their state maps available, for free, at their “Welcome centers”. I have a few PA. Ohio, and West Virginia maps in the van. Even though the van is GPS equipped, a paper map does come in handy from time to time.

If you ever pass a Truck stop, (Pilot, Flying J, Love’s, Petros, T/A ) they usually carry “Rand-McNally Road Atlas’s”, which have laminated pages. I’ve still got a few of them. They’ll last a lot longer.

Alright! Ive figured out my route with 3 planned stopped making it about 6.5hrs of driving. The stops are all bakeries (because I can never pass up the chance to meet another baker!)

So, who wants pastries when I get to York? haha

Good to hear that the show will not be moving too far from York. It is certainly closer to me, though only by 15 min, as York is about an hour from here. The extra distance should be miniscule enough that just about all the clubs and vendors that currently attend the show should be able to attend in Timonium (Don’t know about the NH club). Needless to say I will miss eating breakfast at the Round O’Clock Diner and enjoying an Issac’s sandwich for lunch. Also, as of yet, it is hard to see Timonium as the place to go for g scale and to see notable club layouts and manufacturers. This is because the only experience I have with Timonium is the Greenberg show, which caters more to the beginner model railroader and the non-model railroader and their families. At the Greenberg show, you’d never see a large or well known manufacturer, or even more than a couple club layouts of any scale. I hope the 2020 show will be able to change my perspective.

Can I come?

You ARE coming this time, right?

Gotta call from Ken, yesterday, informing me of the move to Timonium, Md. Sounds fine! Jan’s only concern was how far was it from “the Diner”? All things change and evolve. Life’s a journey, not a 7 minute roller coaster ride. Enjoy the trip, or don’t, your choice.
