Large Scale Central

ECLSTS IN YORK, PA - 2019

30 to 40 mins roughly from the diner Rick. Prices may be bit higher in that neck of the woods. And traffic can be heavy at certain times(https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

I’m probably the only one who will complain about this but BWI airspace (KMTN) sucks compared to KTHV. Oh well.

Martin, If it helps any the travel distance from either to Timonium is

from BWI: 25.9 miles
via I-695 W
Fastest route, despite construction on I-695 S causing 5-min delay

From KTHV:45.8 miles
via I-83 N
Fastest route, the usual traffic

And I’ll bet less head aches from York

FWIW, Timonium is about a half hour drive to the B&O RR museum, if anyone wants to take a shore excursion…

Well, I fly my old '74 Cessna to York from Charlottesville VA. Just over an hour or so. It’s a nice little airport out in the middle of nowhere, no tower, barnstormer type feel, very friendly. BWI is a major international airport with a very large class B footprint inside the DC ADIZ. Yuck. I would not be welcome there to say the least. KMTN looks doable perhaps. 20 min from Timonium. The B&O RR museum would be a bonus too. We’ll see, I have plenty of time to plan it out.

Anyhow, I hope the weather is good for the this last York trip, I couldn’t come till the second day last year and all the good stuff was picked pretty clean (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-smile.gif)

The move has one plus for me and that is the PA turnpike will no longer be the shortest route. Blessed relief !

Well, I post this for all of us that do NOT do FB. This is what these comments are about.

“For those of you who are not on Facebook the 2020 East Coast Large Scale Train Show is under negations with the fairgrounds in Timonium, Maryland. This was posted on a large scale forum over the weekend. So this will be the last year for the show in York, PA as far as I know at this point.”

There is a disturbance in the Force.

You gents need to hold your breath just a bit longer possibly. I’m not nay saying but when I called Star Hobbies on Monday the 5th for an order their statement was under negotiation not set in stone but they are looking that way(https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

Whatever. It’s only a 45 minute difference in drive times; for some it will be a longer drive, for others, shorter. Or maybe it will be back at York. Me, I’ll wait and see and promise to go to the location where they are having the show - NOT the other place.

Either/or it’s the same distance for me. York’s all back roads. Timonium is straight down Rt 1.

Well, Timonium is closer to me, cuts the drive about in half.

I’ve really enjoyed going to York though, because it’s more away from home turf (like an actual trip), and has a great historic feel to it.

Either way, a lot of fun.

Time to consider some “real” trips! Say Massachusetts, or Illinois? Or, if you want International, how about Ottawa?

Good points, Bruce… You retired world traveler… (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-laughing.gif)

Yea, just crossing the border can be a real adventure…(https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)(https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

Hmmmm …Keep an eye out for the “Train ops 2019” to be held @ Bob,s and Stan’s this coming year …(https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-laughing.gif)

Here we have a taste from last year : https://www.largescalecentral.com/forums/topic/27240/train-ops-2018

Someone mentioned that they went to Greenberg’s Show in Timonium, and they were not impressed. There is another one called “The Great Scale Train Show”, which is 3 times a year there. (Used to be 4) Fall and Spring are better attended. They do have all scales, and I have found more G Scale there than at a Greenberg Show. They have a large room for the kids to play in, and an interesting “White Elephant Table”.

Hmmmm

If you go to their website, on one page they give a June date, on another they dropped the June date. Guess I better check before going.

Thanks again Vincent for bringing up the 2020 move, and Lou for your information on this year’s dates, and other shows next year.

But back to 2019, is there still interest in organizing The Alcove once more, as a sort of last hurrah?

Let me break the topic down to the issues I’m aware of (and I’m sure there are others):

In general: Who’s interested? Is it worth the trouble?

Arrangements: Is there someone who’ll arrange permission, tables, chairs, and so forth? If not, I can try; but who would I talk to?

Timesaver: Lou volunteered to bring his, and I’ll help set up & etc. Is that still a go, Lou? Ric, you’re still not bringing yours, correct? If Yes and Yes, who’s wanting to bring trains & controls?

Banner: The official one is floating about, but I"m not positive who has it. Who does, and will you bring it? Otherwise, can you ship it to me or someone who’ll be there?

I’ll be be there Thursday afternoon until Saturday afternoon, FWIW.

Cheers,

Cliff
