ECLSTS IN YORK, PA - 2019

Where do you guys meet for the drag and brag?

Travis, at the Wyndham Garden hotel. Specifically, the Susquehanna Room (to the left of the lobby, as you’re coming into it). (Or ask the counter person). (Or look for where all the old dudes with denim shirts are stumbling into or out of).

Report from ground zero…

Really rainy day.

Lou L., David-Hollywood and I were in the alcove earlier, setting up Lou’s timesaver layout. Lou did a great job planning this out for a quick deployment, and brought all the needed track, trains and control equipment. My main job was to hold Lou’s phone, while he and Hollywood looked at Lou’s photos to figure out how to put the track together. Went very smoothly.

David brought the excellent banners he’d had made, just for this event. We hung them in the alcove, and they look great. With Lou, we also put out chairs, set up tables, and started to arrange things for tomorrow. Should be good to go.

The early bird social went well, around the bar, with Donna the barkeeper attending as always. Lots of discussion about layout ops, train brakes and the recent CP wreck. And mine fires. And smoking cessation. And other things.

I took a couple pics, but I don’t have a cable to plug my phone it to transfer them to my puter at this time. They weren’t great pics… but I’ll upload tomorrow.

Great to see and chat with LSC friends!

All in all, great first day in York. Wish y’all were here,

I have recently sent photos to my computer by way of Bluetooth … The phone is a flip phone …and if I can do it…

I wish I could be there too…

Well I have been watching the live stream posted on the other site. seams from my erratic viewing that the place is MTY. have not seen any of the usual suspects walk by either.

As promised, here’s a few photos.

From setup last night, here’s Lou and Hollywood (on the right).

Also last night, here’s some of the earlier birds at the bar. From the left: Doc W., Gary B., Jon R., and Hollywood’s arms.

This morning, things got off to a very slow start. Here’s Lou, holding down the fort, while contemplating the rear end of an upside-down caboose.

Taken at the same time (9:37AM), the layout hall had more people inside the loops than outside. Really missed the Warrior Run layout, which would normally be in that big blank space to the right.

Fortunately, the crowd slowly built up, both in the hall and in the Alcove. Here’s Ric working Lou’s Timesaver, which seemed to be well attended. At least, there were consistently more people gathered around the Timesaver than there were around most of the huge modular layouts!

Fred, Rooster says Hi,

This isn’t a comprehensive picture of all the LSC brethren and sistren who attended, because a lot more of us were there / are here. All you who couldn’t make it are sorely missed. But despite those losses, Team LSC held its end up.

That’s all I got for now, off to the D&B soon!

Yea, its a shame, but these shows aren’t attended like they used to be.

The usual suspects are now wary of cameras.

For Fred because the others are at the Drag and Brag and probably will not get any pics up till tomorrow or Sunday.

I thought it was a good show “MANY THANKS TO THE BOYS AT STAR HOBBY” by keeping it alive for us! Got to put some faces to some folks on LSC that I had not met before. Thought there was some very good buys from the usual vendors that want to sell their merchandise not sit on it so you see the same over priced stuff year after year. Even Gary spent money this year and was happy about it !

Great seeing all again and and several were certainly missed this year as well!

Live Stream moves from Live Steam around the layouts.

LSC alcove starts here: https://youtu.be/jL86SVh7vl4?t=1417

Have fun everyone!

Don…See what happens when you leave Ric alone …the bastards bait and switched my iced tea…I thought it tasted awful powerful

The D&B was great, as always. Fewer folks than usual maybe, wasn’t quite the same without the BD, but still a blast. In no particular order, here’s some pics.

I was actually kind of disappointed that the show car is the Bachmann EBT 3 bay hopper, lettered for Conrail. I bought one, because I always get at least one show car, but them narrow gauge Vulcan trucks will have to go.

I also spoke with the guys at the WM booth, and asked if they would be doing a second run of the 2 bay WM hoppers, with 4 different road numbers. The guy said no. But then he said he and his Piko rep were surprised at how fast the first run sold. If you have a good seller, then wouldn’t you stick with it?

Also the WM group is taking orders for the little Piko diesel, painted black and lettered up for the WM.

Crest doesn’t have a booth at the show, but I could swear I saw Navin. Maybe I just need new glasses.

David;

Send me those B’mann trucks, which you say you don’t want…I can use them…PLEASE…give them to Ken…he can bring them to me…

Fred Mills

Sure glad I got to the show yesterday, just wish I didn’t have to go so soon. Was nice getting to know those in the alcove that I chat with all the time in the chat room  Even made a few buys there, which will hopefully grace the pages here when the bashing begins hehehe

Fun final day today. I over-spent my budget, what else is new… Attended a talk by Andrew Toth about “the internet of things” as applied to model trains. Fascinating. As always, Dave Bodnar’s talk on Friday was great, all kinds of cheap new gizmos to consider / buy.

Great to finally meet Rooster yesterday, and I had a wonderful time getting to know some of the gang more, like David Marconi, Lou Luczu, and Dave Maynard; Stan & Deb Ames; our friends from Niagara Falls area of Canada, Ray and John; Doc Watson; Travis Dague; and many others. My good buddy Jerry Bohlander appeared happier than a clam, running live steam with his Aikenback Live Steamer pals.

Also had a good chat with Don of Star Hobby. Still working out the details for Timonium, but it sounds like a done deal. And if one wanted further evidence, here’s what the show sweatshirts said:

Great time this year, and next year will be a blast as well. And hopefully we’ll be able to support Star Hobby as they work it all out.

Fred, no, the Vulcan trucks go under my LGB East Broad Top hoppers, with a little modification.

David, Crest had a “booth,” just to the right of Phoenix. But it was the smallest possible, with only a table, chair, and a few Revolution boards / controllers / etc. on the tablecloth. The main reason I noticed the booth is that I recognized Navin’s face, and from there looked up at the little Crest sign. And yep, he was there yesterday and today, but all the times I saw him he looked unhappily unoccupied.

I had a great time at the show. This was my first time attending. Thanks for making me feel welcome at the Drag and Brag. I will bring something next year at the new location. You guys were all willing to share information or just chat. Cliff was giving me some heads up on laser cutters. The alcove was cool too. Rooster is still unique in person (https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-laughing.gif). Seriously tho, it was great to finally meet all of you that I did in person had a great time… I promise I will remember all of your names the next time we meet…Looking forward to next year guys… Travis

A year is long to wait, Could some of us possibly get together at any of the other train shows in Timonium???

There is also a great place to meet, between Syracuse, and Rochester New York…The Finger Lakes Live steamers.

They have a good #1 Gauge Track, which can be used for Roundy-Roundy, or operations. They have track power and dead rail…and to make it a great venue; they are a great bunch of people. Heck, they grabbed Ric, and Jan, Ken, and others, and keep letting them return…!!

They even put up with me, on occasion, as long as I don’t show up too often, and ruin their day…

They put on a "Picknic, roundy-Roundy/ Operation, after the “Invasion”…this year on Monday, July 22nd. I’m sure they would welcome a few more people if asked.

Ric is a member there now…

It was great meeting you, too, Travis. It’s nice to put a face on another name, but don’t make promises ya can’t keep. I’ve been going up to Fred’s for 20 years and still can’t keep all the names straight…(https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)
