ECLSTS IN YORK, PA - 2019

A year is long to wait, Could some of us possibly get together at any of the other train shows in Timonium???

Good idea. Maybe start a thread on a specific upcoming show, and suggest a meeting place?

Well, a bunch of us will be in West Grove, PA in April at Ken Ops - it’s not very far from York. There are other operations sessions the rest of the year scattered around as well…

During the day it’s operating the trains, but in the evening (and, yes, during the day!) we all get together and socialize. Even if you’re not into operations, there’s plenty of chances to yak. (and, you can always give operations a chance(https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-foot-in-mouth.gif))

Good idea to meet up at train shows. I already try to get 2 or 3 buddies to go with to Timonium, and we do the show and lunch, and catch up.

For starters, the next Timonium show is a coming up, 6-7 April, the GSMTS, in the fabulous 3 1/2 acre Cow Palace! See ya there!

I usually show up Sat at 0900…

The GSMTS shows a Holiday Inn Express as their recommended motel. Somebody (or me) if you go to this Show, check it out and see if they have a “Susquehanna Room” or a place for the D&B.

There were several Taking pictures and swearing that they were going home to build one after I explained it fits on an old door.

When I was alone, I had 2 father-son duos come up and they enjoyed fiddling. Funny how the Fathers “guided” the young ones, running over switch points or putting themselves in a dead end, but they all learned. I gave one a simple order of “swap these 2 cars”, and it took them a half an hour. “Boy, this is harder than it looks!”

I only saw maybe 2 kids on Friday and less than a dozen on Saturday.

I don’t know if it was a factor in attendance, but Saturday was the Opening Day of Trout Season.

I learned a lot from Ric, I will show some pics when I make the improvements. I am so mad that I didn’t take pictures when the Dads were playing.

The last kid to come up took the throttle and cranked it all the way up! Crrraaaash! The bumpers Cliff made did save the day, however. Then the Dad asked a lot of questions while firmly holding on to his overactive Son.

Someone took a video with my phone, and I can’t find it! But here is some hysterical evidence:

Notice Cliff’s styrofoam bumpers.

Who’s 2-Batys are those? Don’t look like the Bachman Spectrum Fn3 ones; and their Big Hauler line hoppers were 3 bay. LGB?

FOR FRED

Better late than never? Hollywood and Cliffy at the Early Bird…

To my right was Gary & Doc, but they had a bit to drink before I arrived and were a bit fuzzy…

Next day at the Alcove Ric tries to explain switching to Lou…

Friday night dinner at the Diner with Ric, Jan, Stan, Deb, Ken, Hollywood, Rooster & me…

And at the Drag & Brag the only good picture I got was of the guest of honor. Mr. H. Brown…

The D&B was fairly well attended. Thank you to all that kicked in to the kitty - Ric reported that the room was covered with enough left over for a charitable donation. I did notice a definite lack of Drag this year - only a couple of folks brought things to show.

I thought everyone brought their ‘thinks’ but not too many things.

You’re too quick - I was editing while you were posting!

I never see the typos when pre-reading - only after I hit the Post button - even on this one!

Thank you Jon, for the pictures…the picture of the bottle of Honey Brown was a nice touch. Few of the new people would know of its connection to many friendships started, over the years at the hotel…both the “Early arriver’s party”,and the “Drag and Brag”…thanks for the memories…too bad the “Rodents” didn’t make to the last parties at York.

Fred Mills

Thank you to everyone else that provided pictures, for those of us who couldn’t be there.

Welcome to the club, Jon. That happens to me on almost every post. I check BEFORE I hit that Post Reply button, but then some gremlin changes things and I find I must edit my post.(https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-foot-in-mouth.gif) (I suspect it’s the software from the BD)

It is now Monday am and we have made it home. Lots to do and unload, but wanted to touch base before we get too busy. York was great! How I enjoy meeting up with all these friends. Reading through the last couple of pages of this topic brings many years back to the front of the “grey matter”.

The ECLSTS is considerably smaller than it was at the beginning of the Century. However, many of the people and the businesses have moved on, one way or another. This Show is still the beginning of Spring and you could feel it. It gets the blood perking and the desire to get out and work on projects. Time to plan the Summer travels to the Ops Sessions held around the Country. If you have a chance to join in, DO IT! You’ll have a great time even if you never pick up a throttle. Most of these events are advertised right here on the Events Side Banner and if nothing else, just ask a question.

.

Thanks for the Great pictures, it brings everything back to the top.

Had some real nice weather yesterday and had a chance to take a real hard look at the layout. Felt good to be out there and found a few trouble spots that were easily fixed. Pulled up the passing siding behind Mancos and relaid it, one of the approaches to the Wye needed a quick fix. Now, if I can get the leaf blower started I can clean off all the sticks and twigs that litter the place…(https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)

OK, here are my photos taken a random over the course of the evening…

Apparently those not in attendance were the big beer drinkers. Cliff and I both brought coolers of beer and I think both of us went home with almost as much as we brought !

There was no sign in sheet and I don’t think anyone took attendance, so if anyone had warrants out on them they are still safe.

Thanks again to those who helped me. Those that did know I could not find the folder I made at home with the track layout timesaver details, and Ric’s dice instructions. Good thing I had marked the tracks with masking tape and taken pictures at home so we were able to reassemble.

Anyway, I finally found the folder on my desk between 2 old photo albums! How the gremlins got it there, I have no idea!

Take a pic of this photo and save it on your phone…
