Well Fred here is a picture of all the fun and friendship in the Alcove this year! Considering how much fun and friendship we have had there for MANY years in the past seeing it this way felt like being left along an interstate in a rural area naked and bloody with a rebel flag draped over your ass!

I don’t know if I would have put it quite that way…No, I know I wouldn’t have put it quite that way, but you are right. It was rather lonely and kinda spooky seeing it that way.

And I really don’t need to know who has been in your panties.

Ohh… the image of a flag over a rooster butt… I’m scarred for life! (https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-frown.gif)

Good to meet Eric tonight, And all others at the D&B. I didn’t take any pics tonight (stupid me)… I know Bob did though. Rooster, where were you?? Oh well.

From last night’s Early Bird Social, Fred, you were missed. In fact Donna says Hi. (sorry for the blurry pics).

The “Instant Railroad” was a big hit. Long story, but Donna got the 6 glasses of hot water and put the pills in. Unfortunately, the reality of the advertised “complete train” was disappointing (I warned Donna that she might need to run; who knew what would happen?). But here was the rather tame result.

Here’s a video of an epic consist headed up by five garratt live steam locos this morning.

Five garratts? I wonder how my husband missed that. He has this thing about them, especially the odder looking ones.

As for the 2018 show. Population was sparse considering it was Friday and also Easter weekend as mentioned. Met some new faces from here and saw some old ones as well and ugly ones to (Ken)! Mike Moran from Beacon Hill always has good deals on used stuff(IMO) and manages to get into my panties almost every year! Great seeing the ones I did see and is always good having conversation with Charlie Ro. Would also like to give a shout out to the boys at Star Hobbies for putting this together for us!

I would not be the best to judge on the population here, if you’re referring to the number of visitors, as this is only our second time in five years making it to the show. But it seemed as though the crowd was just as big, though there were some empty vendors spots. A couple members of our club mentioned that too. We also picked up a couple of good deals from Beacon Hill.

Here’s a couple of clips showing Jerry B’s (aka Naptowneng) trains. First is a Regner Chaloner (?) hauling a slate train,

And his logging train, with the cool steam donkey he’s been working on.

It still would be simple KINDNESS, and care, shown by one person, if they could simply post a few pictures here so others could share even a few pictures of whatever fun and friendships appear in “The Alcove” and at the Drag & Brag…

Just so all of you know, I made sure Jan (SWMBO) saw this picture. She said she felt bad. I don’t know if I believe her. I even let her know that since I did have my “Heart Incident” last year, she did prevent me from enjoying one of the simple pleasures that makes all of this existence worthwhile. (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)She said she gave my acting ability a 3.5 on a 10 scale and that I should be grateful for all the pleasures and enjoyments I do have. Still working on the guilt trip, but I’m getting nowhere.

So for those of us that have never been, and are relative newcomers to this site (I’ve only been here since 2005) can someone explain this picture.

I’m gleaning that it is the “alcove” but it just looks lie an open area near some doors.

I would like to see/here the history, since it has been referenced so often.

Greg

Greg;

There have been a great many happy pictures taken in “The Alcove” over the years, and most of them have appeared in the forums, or on the chat.

I’m sure that Ric, Ken, Dave Marconi, Bruce, and others will jump in and provide pictures from their collections. Not being a picture taker, I can’t be sure, but there may be an album in the LSC archives or somewhere, that could be accessible.

During what ever might be considered a “Normal Year”, Ric Golding and partner Jan, always provided the nucleus of “The Alcove”, with his switching layout. Ric should be thanked and GREATLY appreciated for his efforts in promoting our hobby, with friendship, sharing, and faultless dedication…in that “Alcove”

Many others have helped Jan and Ric, over the years.

The one rather sad thing, this year; is that no-one…NO ONE…even local people…were willing to step up with anything…even a presence…a meeting place environment…to fill in for Ric and Jan…Speaking for myself…(Because I’ll get slapped down anyhow)…if I could have been able to be there; I would have made some effort to maintain a presence of some sort…but I couldn’t, and I’m not just a few miles away…Ric gave lots of notice that he couldn’t be there, so there was lots of time, if anyone had had the willingness, I would think…

Hopefully, next year will bring back a GREAT year of care and willingness, to open up the ALCOVE again. Ric and Jan deserve a greater helping hand, not just a bunch of people watching them do all the planning and work…

I hope the DRAG & BRAG went well…Ric and Jan were organizing that lately too…any pictures from it, appearing yet ?

Well, in regular times, it’s the site of Ric Golding’s Timesaver…

(Ric Golding - center, teaching little girl to use the throttle. Ric has a LOT more patience than anyone I know - especially when it comes to trains.)

(Ric Golding - left. Looks like Terry Burr on the right)

But, it’s also a gathering spot for folks…

(Gary Buchanan, Ric Golding and David “Hollywood” Marconi)

(Doug Matheson and “Doc” Watson)

And just a nice little rest area…

(L-R: Dave “Hollywood” Marconi, Jon Radder, Dave “Rooster” Russell, Jean Chandler, Jan Golding) (No idea of youngster in the foreground)

Great pics Bruce…but don’t think for a minute that it went unnoticed that you cropped me out of all of them.

OK, now with the signs that say “not an exit” I get the “alcove”, that helps.

Did you guys have to reserve/pay for the alcove to set up track?

It looks like Ric had a timesaver with extensions to wrap around the corners, that was nice.

Our club is making a timesaver to not only bring to gatherings, but to help Scouts get their Railroading merit badge.

Anyway, looks like a lot of fun, too bad there isn’t something like that on the West side of the continent.

Greg

Thank you, Bruce, for providing those pictures…great memories…

Does it help that the next few years do not fall on the Easter weekend ? You both plus the extended family were missed(https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

There’s an app for that!

Finally made it to York for the first time with my fiancé! Though a nice show, and a few deals to be had, I feel it was definitely lacking in comparison to pictures Ive seen from past years. Though that being said, I do hope to go back, and Maybe have a table or two to sell some stuff. However that didn’t keep me from buying some stuff this year (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-laughing.gif)

It would be nice if when you post a picture of LSC members you could identify them so we know who we are looking at, I understand when it is a general public shot you may not know the name , Looks like the timesaver is a fun place for kids to watch and possibly operate a loco. A small sale we went to had a HO setup and the kids loved being able to operate and do some switching. Now to organize set up and start one here on the west side of the world!!

Edited, I know some people have this I don’t want the internet to know me fear, but its nice to put a face to a person you know on line

Two more vids of the 5-Garratt lash-up.

Except for the fact that the rest of you were missed, the D&B was great fun. Maybe not quite as packed as last year, but that coincides with the low show attendance. Bruce C. had his now famous brass critter, Ray from Canada had his massive and gorgeous scratch-built Schnabel car, Jerry brought his almost-complete but still beautiful donkey engine, Hollywood his huge passenger car bodies he’s building. Eric had his computer and the AirWire-compatible devices he’s inventing, and I brought my ore bin. I’m sure I’ve missed some braggables, so please forgive me for that.

I know Bob was taking a number of pics, and am looking forward to seeing those and all others’.
