Good. Add two and I’ll get a check off to you.
If you take a 1:20 rule to an LGB/USA/Bachmann (1:22) box car, you get a car that’s 25’ long, and just under 7’ wide. Cars of this size were rather common in the early days of narrow gauge railroading, with some of that vintage lasting well into the 1910s. Cars the size of this particular kit were built generally to replace the smaller sized cars, but it would be common in that “transition period” to have cars of both sizes in a train.
This shows the EBT’s “2nd generation” box car (on the left) next to their “1st generation” box car. The 2nd generation car is roughly the same size as the steel car in the kit. On the EBT, the early cars were replaced with the newer ones over a span of two years. No doubt the crews liked the new box cars, as they could finally stand upright without fear of hitting their heads.
Some railroads like the Ohio River & Western and Tuscarora Valley ran some rather diminutive box cars on their lines up to the end of their operations. This one was built from a stock Bachmann box car, though I did add around 1/2" to the height. Later, K
That will work out great because my layout is steam from the 1910-1930 period.
My check is in the mail!

Bob,
Have you determined a price? Thanks.
Bob,
Are these the more enhanced ones you talked about, or did you just settle on only the $25 ones? I told you I wanted 3 before, do I still go through the order page? Does it add in shipping?
Jerry
These ones have the drill holes marked, and the assembly lines lasered in. Should make things easier. The shopping cart will calculate shipping for you.
OK Folks, today I picked up 24 sets of the EBT boxcar. The grab holes and the laser-etched assembly lines exceeded my expectations. I’m VERY impressed.
I’m off to Staples in the morning to get packaging, and those of you that have ordered will start receiving them sometime this week.
I also got a set of what I hope is the final ‘fiddle’ for the 3 bay hopper. I’ll do a test-assemble sometime this week and see.
Geoff
Nice model however the third rivet up from the right corner is obviously off center by atleast 3/1000mm, please correct this problem immediatly, the structural integrerity of the model depends on it!
ps I’m not a rivet counter, I’m a rivet inspector… lol
Bob, looking forward to the hopper cars… unfortunately ebt style cars aren’t my era, but hoppers on the other hand, how can ya model the D&H without hoppers?? What class hoppers? I’m looking for more late 60 and newer stock and aristo and USA are a bit pricey so i would be interested…
Bob,great news about the box cars, can not wait to get mine. Will the hoppers be built of plexiglass too ? And will the box cars still be available in the future ? Thanks
Bob,
Just set ya a payment for my two Box Cars Look Forward to getting them in the mail. Can’t wait to see how the hopper comes out. Any info on the hopper yet?
Brooks: Got the payment, thanks. Ive got the parts mostly separated, need to head to Staples and get some packing.
Not sure about the hopper yet…parts LOOK like they line up ok, but I wont know for sure until I try a test assemble…
Bob, you can send me a hopper kit, i’ll see if it works and then let everyone know, I won’t charge you for this service either!!

Ohhh the poor boy knows not what he asks…

One of the really neet things about the EBT was running standarg guage cars on narrow gauge trucks. Normally the first car in the train.
Since you have an EBT cat down rather well have you considered doing a standard gauge box?
Stan
I agree with Stan on that one that would be something I am sure that alot of people might be interested in. But I am sure that they would rather see the hopper before another Box Car.

Now that ya mention it…I myself plan on build some assorted SG rolling stock to mount on NG trucks. I’m planning to use the G scale KDs as a cheat to simulate the Aluminum castings the EBT used. Special rules will govern the movement of such cars in a train, and the line is being built to accomodate such cars…
