EBT Boxcar, take 2?

Geoff, Looks great! Love those rivets, but don’t envy you the work. How’s about a shot of the combine, too? Alas, my box car is still on hold, while I resurrect another stillborn kit project. (Geoff, you’ll recognize the source.)

Perhaps after this one is done, I’ll get back to the box car. I love to see others’ photos, though, so keep 'em coming. More on the “Orbisonia” can be found here: http://www.mylargescale.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=39319 Later, K

Double DAMN! Another fine model… You guys are making it tough for us less talented. I’m just going to have to shape up. :expressionless:

Thanks guys… especially Bob for creating and leading this project. Kevin, one of the boxes sits on that pair of trucks you sent me, thanks. Warren, I kept thinking, as I was riveting, that the real EBT shops could probably turn out a car faster than I could make the model. I’m waiting on rub down transfers. More photos to come as progress is made.

I’ve got a pretty good string of 2 and 3 bay hoppers. With the boxes and combine 18 (to act as caboose) I’m gonna need a Mikado. Geoff Ringlé

Very nice, Geoff. Great work on all those rivets. I’ll have to hide my cars now.

NICE! Great to see someone else besides me and Bruce building one. That looks nifty!
Hmmmmm perhaps if mine would leave the greater Littleton area.....I might be convinced to work on them! MWUHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHA. The Shop will be back together TONIGHT!!!!

I’m doing it on purpose. If you get the kits, you’ll do them better/faster/neater than the rest of us. Its a proven fact!

In other news, Im finalizing the cutting with my laser guy. He called me with a neat idea, that should only add 50c or $1 to each kit. Marking all the acrylic with cut/drill/glue lines. Will save some steps, and make them a bit easier to detail. Stay tuned while I dust off my CAD skills.

OK, the second run of the boxcar is coming together, and I have a question to those of you that have said they want to be part of the second run. Take this in light of the fact that I’m pondering making a ‘craftsman style kit’ eventually, which would contain most of the needed styrene shapes (Cost around $75-$100, depending)

Given the choice, would you:

  1. Want to pay close to the $20 like in the first run, and get identical parts

or

  1. Willing to pay up to about $30 per kit, but have it include “better” pieces (i.e. the ends cut as one piece, and the sides, roof and end pieces with their layout lines and drill spots marked.

It looks I’ll be pulling the trigger on this after Jan 1. I dont have the bandwidth right now to get this into production now, but your answer will help me get things staged.

Thanks

Personally, I like the idea of modeling aids. Having the layout and drill holes marked is a big plus. Well worth the difference.

Me too.

I’ll third that motion !

Jon

Hi folks
More than likely I’ll be collecting payments, and getting the acrylic cut in the first couple weeks of January. Here’s the list of who has expressed interest in the second run:

Mario: 2 kits
Dave Whellum: 6
Steve Featherlake: 4
John Lily: 2
Jon Rader: 2
Brooks Clymans: 2
Jerry Barnes: 3

Still time to get in the next run! Email me!

Bob,

I’m still interested. I would prefer the upgraded kit with the modeling aids. Thanks again.

OK Folks, the second run of EBT cars is being cut. I should have the parts in-hand here on Jan 26, and will start packaging and shipping immediately after.

So, head over to the Shopping cart and put your orders in now!

Hi Bob
What size are you making those boxcars in?

Doug, they are 1:20.3…and big. They are about the same size as the Accucraft box cars.

Thanks Warren. I don’t think they’d mesh with my LGB.

Somewhere Bruce has a picture of a 1:20 boxcar next to an LGB one. Bruce, you out there?

I think it’s a USA Trains boxcar here…but should be about the same as LGB…

I could just separate them from the LGB with a flatcar, etc. and blend the difference. Is it too late for this batch Bob or should I wait for Run Three?

Doug: You can order. The laser guy has purchased enough acrylic for 40, even though he was only going to cut the 24 from the first batch. I can add more.

Thanks!
