Devon's MIK 2021- Compressed air loco

Nice work, Devon. Did you print the rods or did you fabricate them? I like the yellow, it will go well with the pink engine (https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)

The side rods are bachmann big hauler side rods with the center hole cut away and the two ends married at one side. The white “knuckle” on one side is used to make a socket to join and strengthen the two pieces together. Then the otherside just balances it out. The drive rod is from a bachmann lil hauler side rod with one end cut off. The rest is fabricated out of pieces of brass and copper soldered together.

Swanky! the yellow pops! (too much HGTV here)

Should I include an accent color somewhere? Lol

Love it! Very simple design, gave me some inspiration for my 2-2-2’s linkages.

Also for the accent color you should pick out the cab window frames in yellow. Lol

I believe that the chassis is done other than some paint. Ill wait on that and disassemble the entire thing and paint it when I do the body shell. The cab is done also. And really I dont have a lot of details left on the shell. So the locomotive itself should be close to complete. But then the entire tender needs to be built. Then finally plug it all in and pray the electronics work and the thing actually goes.

So this is about as fancy as the back of the tank is gonna get. It has the key elements of the air pipes headed to the expansion tank, the throttle lever and linkage and the pressure gauge. Once a brake and Johnson bar are put on the cab floor and a guy on a seat I think there will be enough detail to be interesting.

The pink locomotive

Nice job on the cab details, Devon. I thought you were kidding about the pink loco, boy was I wrong (https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)It will certainly standout out on the layout. Just remember, only real men have the balls to operate a pink engine (https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-tongue-out.gif)

Now Dan, those aren’t balls, those are rivets.

Devon: All you need is a Hello Kitty sticker and you are set! Nice controls for the cab!

Devon,

First, I am glad to see you were able to crack on despite everything else! Second, I almost think you should leave it pink with a Hello Kitty sticker on it at least through the judging!

Aloha,
Eric

Dan,

You must have missed it. Craig convinced me that when you want a construction yellow model you paint it pink first then yellow over that. So this is the base coat.

To everyone elso…NO.

Yep, that just went slap over my head. Without going back and re-reading, I do remember some discussion about an undercoat and pink, just didn’t put the 2 together. Thanks for the clarification.

So other than a little bit of detail and touch up paint I think the locomotive proper is complete. Now to start on the tender.

I stole a picture of a gauge off the internet and reduced it down and printed it off on regular paper and super glued it to the gauge face. Not the sharpest detail but i think it came out okay. I am really happy Eric suggested yellow. Its is just far more fitting for what this is. And once it is washed in black, weathered, and otherwise dirtied up it is gonna look great.

Looking terrific, Devon. But for some reason, a song keeps going through my head:

(the lego version!)

lol that’s funny

Cool! Looks like you are making progress!

Devon;

It’s really looking superb.

Jim;

Let’s not forget We All Live in a Yellow Brick Latrine by the Dung Beetles.

Time to duck and weave, David Meashey

That looks great, Devon. I like the yellow, it will certainly stand out on the layout.

One thing about taking pictures is you find stuff you missed. I still see some pink. But for the most part the loco itself is done. I still need to install the light but thats it.

There’s got to be a way to make a game out of that. (https://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-laughing.gif)
