No sleep. Hard push. Work right up until time to go to work.
Yah no. It’s a hobby not a job.
And plus every MIK build has been a DNF so far so why not keep the tradition? I still say I need 2 extra weeks to balance the retired and/or kid free workers…
I mean that has to count for something right?
In 30 years when LSC has passed onto the great train room and I’m by my lonely self in this hobby, I too will have a full 30 days of retired life to work on a project and get it done.
A day or two later and still no dollar spent, I’ve got the first official coat of primer on the entire thing. Whoo hoo. Next up check all the errors, find a paint color. Maybe finish next weekend?
Better late than never. Several of my DNF entries are still in the state they were the day the contest ended. One of which I have no excuses for as the part that was hanging me up was generously donated by a member here. It was to be my winter project, but then came the bridge repair and now it looks and feels like spring is just around the corner!
I often look at my pile of unfinished projects and wonder if I’ll ever get them done. I want to at least get this building done before spring hits and I get remotivated to work on layout stuff. With the layout I feel like i take 3 steps backwards for every 1 step forward.
Craig I totally sympathize with you on the pile of unfinished projects.
I’m still slowly working on this. Used up the last of the rattle can primer on the building. Needs a few more touch up areas and sanding of seams.
I also started assembling the lights and made the stupid mistake of not testing the SMD LED before I glued it into the light fixture. Good thing I made extras.
All the lights assembled and awaiting some black paint. I also need to dig through the paint and figure out a color for the main building.
Still left to build is a small rectangular base for the ventilation fans. Those should go pretty quick.
Here’s some quick snaps from today and last week’s progress.
Just some cheap Apple Barrel paints so far with one layer.
And the lights with some black. I need to “turn them on” for the 3rd or 4th layer of paint to find all the thin spots.
Need something to get a sense of scale, a 40-50 ft boxcar or something
Those lights are looking good. I think they will look fantastic installed and lit up.
I’m going to use the LED drivers on these instead of resisters as I’m still not 100% sure what my input voltage is going to be. I went strolling through the big box store looking at outdoor lighting and wire a few days ago. I’m not sure if I want 2 separate circuits one for walkways lights and one for RR lights or keep everything on the same circuit.
I was having the same dilemma. I think I am going to do all my building lighting with 12V solar system with battery like those made for camping and then just run an appropriate wire to hubs and then feeders to each building. All of my buildings will be in clusters so it should be easy. And 12V camping solar systems big enough to run what we want to use them for are pretty cheap anymore.
I was thinking about old school hardwired with a outdoor switch. I don’t get enough sun light to charge batteries with all my trees.
Craig there is also the sun only shines 3 times a year in Seattle myth to keep alive , so no batteries
3 times a year? Wow. That’s more than I’ve seen in my 3 decades of life.
We are currently in false spring. And about the hit the big dark on Sunday again with the time change…

That’s pretty funny , our daughter lived in Kent for about 2 years, so I know!
We just had false winter last week. Last Tuesday we had a 2 late start at school because of ice. The week before we closed due to a slushy inch of 34° rain I mean snow…
Just about time to break out the shorts for false spring. A local insurance company in the 90’s had a TV ad they called “Northwest Profile” and one of them was a 60° shirts off let’s get a sun tan guy. Yah that will be happening around the area soon right before the big dark hits again…
