Craig's 2024 MIK T-D Feeds Hay Storage Shed

We came for the rain festival one year

Getting closer…

light looks great. At least in the pictures the light looks to be about the right intensity to be very plausible.

I was pleasantly surprised at how well the LED drivers worked. I experimented with 1 but it was a lot dimmer, so I added a second in parallel and it got much brighter. I added a third but I couldn’t see much difference between 2 and 3 in terms of light output. Using 2 wasn’t that difficult and it gives me some additional insurance incase I end up with a higher input voltage.

I haven’t had a chance to get it outside to see but it lit the bathroom up quite a bit. For 8 little SMD it puts out a few lumens.

Well one less half done project off the workbench. Thanks for the push to start and try to get this done in 30 days. I failed that part but I got it done. Now off to complete more parts of the feed mill.

Total costs: $0. I did buy resin prior to the challenge but it was “free” money from a summer training I went to. Can’t complain about a $50 gift card for participating in a 40-50 minute discussion about Advanced Placement classes.

Everything else was sourced from parts on hand.

Lessons learned:

  1. Styrene is still a good building material (for me at least) so long as you use .060" or thicker. .030 seems to be less UV stable even with clear coat.
  2. Apple Barrel paints seem to work good long term ( I’ve got 2 MIK builds outside) so long as you coat with UV clear.
  3. LED drivers are useful!

That looks really good, Craig!

Eric

Thanks. Now back to regularly scheduled programming…

I need to update the to do list and figure out what’s the next thing to cross off. Debating on more feed mill projects or layout expansion projects.

Layout work is leading the way at the moment during false spring…

Good job Craig. Came out great. Curious why the different color roof panels. I know you well enough to know its prototypical, so do oyu know the reason behind it. . .repairs?

I’m guessing repairs, I probably should have done them a grey color instead of black, but I had black on hand. I wouldn’t have known that the panels were different until I came across the photo this past August. Also it showed the two roof vents and the rough location of the big door. I’m guessing that this was taken from a silo/walkway on the mill.

Sharp eyes and memories will note that the pawn shop in the foreground was a previous MIK build. And I had built the false front the entire width of the building… Shh :zipper_mouth_face: don’t show anyone the picture.

As a side note, the half false front makes more sense than a full width front. That’s because a later addition was added onto the building after it was moved. I believe the pawn shop building was moved around 100’ from its original location across Leary Way to the west to the “new spot” this making the back the new front and vis versa.

Sky light panels???

That was my first thought as well. Nice building Craig.

Cheers

Nice catch Devon. Looking close at Craigs photo

it shows four evenly spaced dark areas (actually eight) as there are a matching set directly opposite. Normally these would be light panels in this type structure.

Humm so if they are light panels they should be a light/clear color but appear colored dark because of the photo and the light. Well I’m going with replacement panels as I know a few other areas on the mill have these “see thru” panels but I’m just painting them as normal.

Guessing they are darker looking due to looking into a dark structure, that is also my guess they are natural light panels to lessen the need for interior lights they 5 days it is t dark and gloomy in z that area! LOL!!!

this place I am sure those are skylights , but a quick search showed several buildings with darker panels that look like they would be skylight type , some lighter and some darker

There is no natural sun light where Craig lives. He has two seasons. Fog and rain.

It’s actually light rain and fog with brief glances of sunlight or rain, rain, rain, more rain, heavy rain, drizzle, sprinkle.

The joke with someone from Seattle is, how do you know who the transplants are? The ones with umbrellas.

A native knows a drizzle is just a damp fleece, a sprinkle is a damp and then dry and then damp fleece and rain is for a rain jacket.

BTW I love the rain. Doesn’t bother me.

A common roofing materiel in Craig’s neighborhood is moss

i love moss. but down here it is as frequent as hen’s teeth.
