Funny you say that… Look what’s growing on my depot building from a few years back.
I wasn’t lying. that area is weird. They have rain like everyone else. But then they also have just this damp mist. You would think you were in a tropical jungle but it’s not hot. In fact it can be quite chilly. It’s a what they call a temperate rainforest. Basically is the entire west coast from N California to Alaska. You don’t live there if you don’t like being damp.
I miss the days of the news saying we have a pineapple Express. Now it’s just atmospheric river. So much less exciting. 60° rain vs 45° rain and the cause of the nations most deadly avalanche up at Wellington.
The light panels come in a hazy clear, a clear, and green on this side of the states. All fiberglass shaped to take the place of a regular panel. But replacement panels work too.
Thanks to my 5 yld, this building needs minor repairs… He decided that it would be okay to pick and take off the lights because the building happened to be at his level for a week or two as I was moving stuff. I have some lights on hand to fix but the saga of the building continues…
I’ve also noticed slight cracking developing within the paint. I used the same cheap acrylic paint on the other buildings and they haven’t shown the same cracking.
Not sure why that happened as I clear coated it with UV after it was all done. Probably not enough at the moment to get a complete repaint but something I’ll have to watch. If I end up repainting, I’ll be sure to repaint the “skylight” sections into something more representative of the color.
Ugh. Nothing like 1 step forward 2 steps back. Dang kids. It’s a good thing yours are cute!!! Other wise I’d suggest sacrificing them to the RR gods
We have finally outgrown that problem! Now the problems are phones, dating, timeliness, procrastination…
Eric
I thought I had also outgrown that problem as well but apparently not. This 5 yld doesn’t act like a 5 yld most of the time because of his bigger brothers, but stuff like this reminds me that he’s still young.
Stupid tree rats! This building was already showing signs of wear in the paint (not sure what happened), and destruction of the lights so now I guess it really is time for a full fix and repair job. Should be an easy fix once I fire up the printer. I’ll repaint the entire building and find a different color to represent the clear panels. Not sure what color yet.
Maybe a color-blind squirrel thought they were walnuts? If so, maybe load the vents full of cayenne pepper before you glue them down?
Regardless, my sympathies, Craig!
I don’t know if it’s something in the resin they smell because they also chewed one of my lights I made.
Suppose I should ask the hive on the Internet to find out.
Craig, I saw your thread on Siraya Tech, I hope someone gives you some answers.
FWIW, there are numerous threads / articles on capsaicin (e.g., hot pepper spray, cayenne pepper powder, etc.) as a squirrel deterrent, but I haven’t tried it.
YMMV… Good luck.
I really enjoyed the comment about poisoning the squirrels. Yah my goal in life is to build models just to poison squirrels.
Our hundred year old neighbour put us on to mothballs and also camphor balls . It worked for rats and possums (but probably not as satisfying your BNSF pest control technique).
On the downside our backyard smelled like Narnia.
